I took a political science class that I didn't need to fit any requirement and received an F. I recently found out that I can do an academic renewal and essentially remove the F from my transcript. However I want to get in to USC (it's my number 1) and they don't honor academic renewals. This course is really demanding and is taking away from the courses that I do need. I'm taking 21 units right now and I don't even know my chances of getting in to USC. I've also applied to some CSU's and I believe my chances are pretty good without the F on my transcript. Will USC be able to understand my situation and be forgiving or should I retake the class and risk struggling in the classes that I actually need?

I thought USC does not do grade forgiveness. They will still compute the F into your GPA even if you retake the class. I am not sure what you mean regarding understanding.

I guess do the academic renewal since it won’t effect your GPA with USC

exactly, they don’t do academic forgiveness which would be the only reason for me taking this class. I’m debating whether to bite the bullet and take this class on my already overloaded schedule or to drop it to make room for the courses I do need but risk not getting accepted because I didn’t retake that class to rid the F.
