Received Post Card: "Student Life at Maryland"

DiN009: You said, "all my friends who applied to maryland (i live in NY) got them, even the ones I know won't get in."

Question: HOW do you know they won't get in?

And you said previously, "Everyone got them"

Question: HOW do you know EVERYONE got them?

So, you have the inside track on admissions at UMD?

yea actually i told UMD to send them to everyone except the people that complain on this message board, sorry

actually yea i was the one that sent these out and sent them to everyone except the people that are complaining, sorry

Not one person in my town got them either and I live in NJ. weird.

I blame the postal service
PS. Stop freakin out.

It has nothing to do with being accepted or not... it is a mass mailer, if you are on the list, it gets sent. Think about this logically, they would have to have a computer program to go through 28K+ applicants and weed out accept/fresh firs/rejections and this program would have to be readjusted every yr. It is just easier to send to everyone. The reason they send it out now is b/c they know ED and rolling admissions are coming out so they want you not to make a decision yet, in case you do get accepted.

OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND is why they send them out.

Another college D applied to sent a mass mailing of a big catalogue in a BIG envelope recently. I knew decisions weren't supposed to come out for a while, but I think some applicants might have gotten unecessarily excited. Much nicer to send postcards out if everyone's stressing.

Univ of Miami does that...and it really is insane when they send it in Jan/Feb time frame b/c most kids are glued to the mailbox.

I don't UMD does that...I only recall the big envelopee upon acceptance. To be honest compared to UM it was disappointing. UM had fun stuff like decals and a nice presentation with the merit money, UMD had a CD rom.

Did any in-state applicants recieve an invitation from the University of Maryland to attend a meeting on merit based scholarships and financial aid on Feb. 4? Why do you think they have this meeting immediately before decisions come out?

yeah i got one a while ago lol they also emailed me wishing me happy holidays during the xmas season

It is simple reason they do this, people now a days put cost of attendance right up there for a reason to go there. If a student thinks they can't afford it, they might not attend, by having this seminar they are assisting people in their decision process and hoping that a qualified atudent will choose UMD over another school that gives FA
