Received Scholarship Mail From UC Berkeley?!?!?

Idk if this is a sign that I will be accepted or not, but i just received mail from Berkeley Scholarship Alumni Committee. Let the arguments begin! lol

Here is the content of the email:

Dear UC Berkeley Applicant:

The Cal Alumni Association invites you to apply for our undergraduate scholarship - The Achievement Award Program.

Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Achievement Award Program provides incoming freshman and junior transfer students up to $6,000 each year and a new laptop computer.

Apply now: The Achievement Award Program | CAA
Application Deadline: February 24 @ 5:00 p.m. PST

Please apply early to guarantee submittal of your application.

I got the same e-mail. Notice the message at the bottom:

“Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.”

I think that just about clarifies it.

I got it too. I don’t have significant volunteer hours though so I wouldn’t have anything to really discuss for the first essay :confused: meh.

^ I’m in the same boat as you. Absolutely no volunteer hours for me because I worked part-time with full-time hours for most of my post-high school life. But now I’m just a traditional non-working full-time student, so I’m really in need of all the scholarships I can get. I feel so regretful…

I didn’t get it…

most people got it I thnk.

Received the email as well.

No argument here. Didn’t receive the email as a transfer applicant this year, but I did as a freshman applicant last year, and I didn’t get in. As itsgoodmetal quoted, the email is neither a good nor bad sign.

I received it, too. I just thought it was an automatic response e-mail sent to applicants who requested financial aid. I wouldn’t read into it.

never received it. For those of you who did receive it, did you already submit your FAFSA? I just submitted mine today

Yes, I submitted my FAFSA sometime last week.

Wait did all of you who got it already fill out fafsa?

I already submitted my fafsa. I think they just send it out to students whose family income is within the eligibility range

No, I’ve started FAFSA, but have yet to submit. But I also received the email today

Received the email, no fafsa yet. Weird.

i want oneeeeeeeeeeeeee! lol i feel left out :(

The criteria for the Alumni Achievement award is:

* Minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA

 • Gross family income of $86,000 or less
 • California resident as defined by the AB 540 guidelines
 • Submit a UC Berkeley application for Fall 2012/Spring 2013 enrollment
 • Submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) to UC Berkeley by June 1, 2012

@calibabe: Are you under 25?

I got the email too!!!

It means NOTHING. Fill it out if you qualify, don’t fill it our if you don’t. Has zero meaning in terms of admission.
