Recieved Course Guide - Bad Joke or Mistake?

I got the whopping Course Guide in the mail - 2 days after I submitted my ED app.

Is this a bad joke, or (hopefully) a prescient one? Or just a mistake? Anyone else recieve one? An attempt at wooing me into applying?

my S received one also, but about a month before he applied

they are obviously interested in you. But it probably doesn't mean anything other than "you are in the running"

I got one today from Chicago (Though it was about 150 pages less and a quarter the size). It all seems rather stupid and wasteful, especially considering that I've already applied (though they may have intended it as a recruiting tool, but still). It's quite a shame that I'll be paying for such excesses in the future with 50k/year fees.

Do many colleges do this?

I got one from chicago as well i remember. I never actually sent my full EA app to chicago, but I remember getting it after expressing interest, sending test scores, and possibly sending a "part I" type of form to them...I don't remember exactly seeing how long ago it was. But yes it seems like a recruiting tool. Your $50,000/year will be paying mostly for other students' tuition. One reason the cost of college is so high in the US is because the full tuition cost is used to subsidize FA costs.

However, keep in mind the value of a US degree. My Spanish professor told me yesterday how people all over the world leave their countries and try to get a degree from a US college, looking past their OWN national university(ies) only to return to their country 4 or 5 years later to get a job. The reason is the businesses in their countries value a US degree much more than from anywhere else except a select few universities scattered around the globe."

That said, yeah, it does seem like a waste, even if they sent it to you as a prospective applicant. Quite frankly though, the books don't cost that much; it's more the potential waste of paper that's concerning.

Just you wait til Washington uni at St Louis starts their mass mailing excercise.

i didnt get course booklets from any college...:(

Neither did I.

did you guys fill out all the profiles and stuff on CB?
