Recommendation Etiquette

I assigned a teacher to be a recommender about 5 weeks ago. He’d aleady offered to write me recommendations last year. Now, my EA deadline is November 1 and he still hasn’t submitted it. I emailed him yesterday and he said he would do it last night, but he didn’t. At what point do I tell him not to bother and that I’ll find someone else? He really liked me (got me an internship), but I don’t trust him to get it in on time, and now there’s only 6 days left. What do I do?

Go bug him in person if at all possible. Otherwise call him. Im having this issue with 2/4 of my recommenders.

@snowfairy137 He took a fellowship this year so he’s not teaching at the school right now. I don’t have his phone number.

Don’t do that.

It’s not 11/1 yet. Reminding once is fine. Reminding more than that in 24 hours is stalking. This is not the teacher’s first rodeo - he knows the drill.

@skieurope But when I reminded him, he set a self-imposed deadline and did not meet it.

You don’t necessarily know that. Did he say he would “do” it, “write” it, or “upload” it? Maybe he wrote it last night and wants to review today with his morning coffee before clicking the button. Besides, he said he would “do” it last night; it is not even 9:00 am in your time zone.
