Hello! I have a question regarding semantics...some schools I'm applying to require two letters of recommendations from professors and professors only. Currently, I have one professor down. I'm also pretty close to an adjunct instructor and I would like a rec from her. She leads recitation sections and also taught one lecture. Is she considered a professor in terms of transfer admissions? If not then my remaining choices are severely limited. I'm not that close to any other professors and I think it's too late in the semester to start building relationships.

That’s really hard to say, if by prof they mean tenure track, then an instructor wouldn’t count. Do they actually say profs only, or just no TAs?

When in doubt, I always think it’s best to call/email the school for clarification.

So I emailed the college and the representative said that recommendation letters should come from faculty who are teaching and grading the class. Well I mean my instructor taught one formal lecture and has been teaching recitation sections, and certainly she does all the grading, so she counts? I think the representative implied no TA’s. Should I email again just to be 100% sure?

I did a google search for ‘does faculty include instructors’, here are a couple of the results:

IMO, Instructors are faculty, TAs are not.

Thank you for the advice and resources entomom, and sorry that I’m replying so late! So, getting a rec from the adjunct instructor is no problem. Great!
