I applied to USC and RIT with CommonApp. And I'm a bit confused on the recommendations and SAT scores for the application.

My counselors and teachers all stated that they sent in the recommendations through the email and instructions they received after I submitted on the CommonApp. But the CommonApp says that recommendations are "not started". This means that they didn't receive it right?

And they said that I haven't sent SAT scores. How should I send in my SAT scores?

Teachers and counselors can send them offline. If they do, they simply won’t appear in your school forms section online. Doesn’t mean they aren’t at the colleges - just that you can’t see it on your screen.

Once you get username/password at each school you apply to, you may be able to check directly there that all items are received or what is missing.

Send those scores electronically, not rush. Some schools aren’t equipped to take RUSH scores and the electronic ones are fine for pretty much every school.

USC’s application deadline was December 1st and I believe RIT’s application deadline is coming up soon. I decided to have all the teachers send in hard copy recommendations because it seems the online CommonApp thing isn’t working. Both my teachers and counselor said they uploaded the recommendation, but CommonApp says it hasn’t been started.

Do you think I should call the school and explain why my recommendation is late?

Call them. It’s possible that they have received them. I haven’t ever heard anyone have trouble with their recs not showing up in School Forms. Did you send them link directly from Common App, or did you submit it through Naviance at your school?

That’s very odd. There is usually some leeway about items like recs and test scores not getting there by the deadline.

On CommonApp, under school forms, I submitted my counselor’s email, and all of the teachers that I asked for recommendations. They told me they received the email and submitted the recommendation online but the CommonApp says the recommendation was not started.

So the teachers either did something wrong or the recommendation isn’t being updated on CommonApp? Not sure. I don’t want to keep bothering my teachers cause I’ve brought the issue up multiple times.

OMG this is the same problem I am going through…the counselor got his thing in and it says “submitted”…however one of my recommenders says that she has submitted it, but it doesnt appear on my screen that it is fully “submitted” it just says started…i told her to keep submitting it…hahaha…i bother teachers too much…
