recommendations for chem6A professors

Planning to take chem 6A any suggestions as to what professors i should take?

i keep hearing johnson’s really good, but she’s teaching a night class fall quarter :(

Johnson is considered the ‘best’ but it’s reallly hard to get her classes usually. Cause everyone wants to take her. Maybe if she’s teaching a night class now it will be better

^ why is it :frowning: that shes teaching a night class?

and whats a second recommended chem6a teacher? since you said shes hard to get.

Prob. cause she’s busy. She has kids to take care of…

Stuart was pretty good.

… are night classes undesirable? because I wouldn’t really mind them, but people in this thread seem to dislike it. am I missing something?

^It’s just people’s preferences. Most people don’t want to be sitting in class at 7pm. If you don’t mind, then all the power to you. Personally, I’d take a late class over an 8am class any day, but that’s just me.

doesn’t matter, Stuart is basically the same as Johnson: a close friend of mine took Johnson and I took Stuart, we were able to study together at the same pace, after comparing midterms, the relative difficulty was, more or less, the same.

Anyone have any experience with Sailor?

With Johnson, everyone is going to try to sign up for her. At one point after all the signups are done, she will open up more sections meaning you guys will get an email saying “new section open that isnt visable on Tritonlink. The course number is ######. Type this into the search and sign up.”

So that is a possibility. But if you do that keep in mind that if you dont get into her class even after that, there is a chance all the other “good” professors could be taken

i had Stuart for 6A and Johnson for 6B. I personally thought that Stuart’s lectures were easier to follow since she wrote her notes on the board whereas Johnson went through the material much more quickly by writing on the overhead.

As for the difficulty of the tests, I thought both were extremely similar.

johnson is good, but extremely hard. i had a professor named sinha for 6A, he really sucked but still received a good grade in the class…6a material is relatively easy when comparing to the other two courses in the series

What about sailor?

@Chemistrylover
You could look up an app called Veechi on Facebook to see if people have rated that professor. You can also see grade distributions based on each professor’s class, but not every professor may have been evaluated. I think you can see the people who rated classes, so I guess you could contact them and ask.

sailor was really popular a few years back. he didn’t teach that many undergraduate classes (he did the upper-division ichem lab and some graduate seminars), but i heard nothing but good things about him. he’s a really nice guy too.
