I got a 460 in Writing with an 8 on the essay. What prep books should I start off with? Also any other tips for the writing section? English isn't my 1st language and my college counselor told me if I break 600 in writing it will be very beneficial. I looked at my writing score breakdown I basically need help in all categories :(. I received a 620 in CR and 770 in Math with no Prep. Mainly taking the sat in June to get an 800 in math so I can superscore encase I don't get 800 in October and to improve writing to 600+. October is when I will be shooting for 2100+.

I started off with the SAT Question of the Day and went from 64->75 on the PSAT between freshman and sophomore year. After that try Barron’s.

Study grammar! I know it’s a pain but it’s so worth it! I went from 600 to 800!

In this case, I second the grammar studying. In fact there’s a little green-covered PSAT prep book that I used (I think it was Barrons) and it was extremely helpful. Other than that if you’re just like me (I scored high on everything EXCEPT writing) make sure you report your AP Comp (if possible) scores on your Common App. I got a 5 so my low SAT writing score was clearly a fluke (or showed that I didn’t know parts of speech. One of the two.)

Haha I am taking the AP class but not the Exam. It’s required for every junior at my school to take the class but for the AP exam you need to be recommended. I think I will be starting off with the blue book because I read that barron’s prep books are harder than the real exam.

Get Erica Metltzer’s SAT Writing book. It is awesome.

I am taking the SAT’s in May and I am wondering if it’s realistic for me to improve from a 460 (8 Essay) to a 650 (9-11 Essay)?

Yes! Have you bought any books yet?
