Recommendations, how many and from whom?

I have heard 2 teachers + councler.
But what about 2 teachers, councler, and employer? Or do colleges only want 3 in total?

help please!

Colleges have not coordinated this.

Thus, you should be emailing or calling or looking on the websites of the colleges that YOU are applying to if you want to know what to do.

yea supplemental recs are generally good.

While there is no universal standard for recommendations, two teacher recommendations (from teachers who have taught you in either your junior or senior year, only) and one counselor recommendation is a good way to go, unless required to have more. It cannot hurt you to send three recommendations to most schools (again, unless you’re required to have more). As for supplemental recommendations from alumni, employers, and so on, one or two are fine, but be reasonable about these. Harvard doesn’t want to get fifty recommendations from individuals who don’t really know you. Admissions committee workers are pledged to read EVERYTHING you submit, so sending excessive recommendations is just going to make them annoyed with you. Keep it three to five, unless otherwise indicated.

would it be ok to have three teacher recommendations? + counselor

^Which colleges are you considering applying to?

couple ivy leagues like princeton, cornell, upenn and also NYU, carnegie mellon, duke, UMD

I would try to keep it to two, unless they say you can submit more. Really, they try to move through a load of applications per day and even one extra piece of writing that isn’t absolutely critical to your status as an applicant…may be too much.

But I don’t know. If you’re looking at three sparkling teacher recs, go for it.

Is there a disadvantage to using an AP teacher from sophomore year? This teacher has had me for 2 years plus we still talk now. The problem with using teachers from junior year is that I transferred OOS between 1st and 2nd semester. In that case, would a teacher from freshman AND sophomore year be acceptable?
