Murphree Area hands down. I would say Broward, Jennings, or Rawlings but they are TOO rowdy. Now out of all the Murphree Residence Halls, I would recommend Sledd Hall for the traditional freshman dorm experience. It is in the center of the Murphree Area and close to the laundry room. If you are looking for a bigger room in Sledd, the 3rd floor rooms have bigger rooms because the structure is different from the first floor.

Murphree Hall is too antisocial in my opinion. Buckman and Thomas have no A/C. And Fletcher has a lot of mold and asbestos issues. Hope this helps :)

But as a whole, the entire Murphree Area is wonderful!

Jennings, Broward, or Rawlings for a guy. I always hear Jennings usually has more girls than guys, but some people say that like it’s a bad thing haha. I want something social, I want to meet a ton of people and make lots of friends which is why I don’t want to go to Beaty like I originally planned. So out of those three which ones best?

So I just want to open this back up since this is the most informational thread I have found. I am a junior in highschool and plan on applying to UF next year and decided to go ahead and start looking into it’s housing. As a freshman, where would be the best hall for me to live in? I want a good social experience, but too many people make me claustrophobic and overwhelmed which is why sharing a bathroom with 50 other people makes me nervous. I enjoy the occasional party, but i’m not into the rowdy party crowd. I’ve considered the luxury halls like Ivy or Windsor as well. If anyone can help me out i’d really appreciate it!

Hey guys! I am a hopeful transfer coming to UF next year. What dorms for upperclass men are good? I had dorm life at FAU so I would like something different. Thanks!

for upperclassman definitely Murphee area. Although they can be luck of the draw because each room is different. Most upperclassman decide to live there because of it’s amazing location, seriously right by the library, midtown, and classes. Don’t worry about the no airconditing, I know you can bring your own and I heard a rumor that they might be adding it come next year.

alright guys this is gonna be a long post. I’m a freshman here at UF and being outta state I really wanted to make sure I had the right dorm. first off make sure you put down your deposit ASAP! It’s nonrefundable $200 but A LOT of people forget to do it, or do it after they get their acceptance back and get super low numbers. I put mine in November and I got the very first selection date possible. If you get a low number you wont have many choices and may not be able to pick your roommate (a big thing for me). You could also end up locked outta housing and have to live off campus, put in a late application triple, or put in late housing in Beaty East where you’d have to move after the first semester. UF uses a program called roomsync where I met my roommate online, we get along very well and honestly I don’t think I could do dorms without having a rommmate you like.
As for dorms, there are 2 sections of campus. One side with Graham, Riker, etc are very close to frat row and have the standard dorms with bathrooms down the hall. As for these I’d say they’re all pretty much the same. Murphee area has hands down the best location, right next to the library, midtown, and classes. I wouldn’t worry about the no airconditing because you can bring your own and I heard a rumor they may be adding it come next year. These are really luck of the draw though because they wern’t originally dorms so each room is different. Some may be really big while others are smaller. this is also where most of the upperclassman live. Springs is on frat row literally, but it would take some time to walk to class everyday. Lakeside is insanely far and you would need a scooter to go anywhere although you do get your own room. Hume is not worth the money. It’s close to the union, kinda close to frat row, but kinda far from class. just not worth the price. Jennings is mostly sorority girls, and has the nicest common areas outta any dorm. Broward and rawlings are the closest to class and the most social. Beaty is where I live, it’s not social at all, I don’t even recognize my neighbors, but it’s close to sororities and has it’s own kitchen and bath. The room is very small, I can touch my roommates bed, but it’s nice having a common room for when my roommate wants to go to bed early. Mallory, Yule, etc are close to sororities but far from frats and have the standard rooms with bathrooms down the hall. Personally I love beaty because I’m not on meal plan and love to cook, but it just depends on the person. :)
