I was wondering if everyone in general is sending in extra recommendations. I am applying RD as an OOS applicant. On the Common App, it only shows that the Counselor Recommendation will be sent. None of the Teacher Recommendations are shown. Would it be a good idea to send in extra teacher recommendations? Would it hurt me in any way?

Although I didn't use the common app for UVa last year I wouldn't send more than two teacher recs. Make sure they are going to be stellar. Quality over quantity.

Good luck. I remember the pressure of last years deadlines and I don't envy you the angst of going through this process.

Quick question: I'm planning on mailing the recommendations I got from my teachers. What is the latest date that they can be postmarked?

corg, the general rule for mail is that it should arrive at the destination no later than 1-1.5 weeks after the deadline for college apps. The reason I say this, is that everyone will be sending their recommendations now (everyone is a procrastinator lol :)) and it'll take admissions some time to sort through the stuff. Just to be safe, I would send it no later than the end of this week.

this is what admissions was going through last year; and there was TONS more! The amount of mail should decrease this year (since the application has gone wireless) but that also means less sorting time.
