Recycling my personal statements for transfer??

So, I'm thinking about re-using the personal statements I wrote senior year for freshman application to my transfer application.
Even now that I read it again, its still really good in my opinion, I really put a lot of effort into the essays. And they still apply, my intended major/career field has not changed.
Although for freshman app, the first essay is Describe the World you come from and for transfer, its your intended major why and what have you done to pursue it. But my freshman essay covered my intended major and why I want to pursue it.
And the second essay is the same for both freshman and transfer.

Do you guys think its doable? I'm seriously not lazy, I can write a new essay but nothing "major" or write-worthy has happened yet since high school.. (ironic?)

Do you guys think they will know and be a big thumb down on my application??

And the same for a couple other private schools that I have applied before that I'm applying again.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, maybe the second essay I will keep it the same, but the first intended major essay I will make some changes to it for sure. But the examples and conclusion will probably stay the same. Is that ok?

I can’t imagine there would be any penalty or repercussion for reusing your personal statement. I applied as a transfer and then reapplied the following year having used a very similar personal statement, I only did some minor revision, and it didn’t have any effect on my admissions. Also, given the fact that only 3 out of 9 of the UCs factor the personal statement into their admissions decision, it’s highly unlikely (at least at the other 6) that your personal statement could hurt you in any way.

I assume the three UCs are Berkeley LA and SD?
I just dont want them to think I’m lazy and just re-used my essay for freshman app again for transfer.
thanks for your respons!

It’s actually four UCs, I forgot about Merced I always forget about Merced because it’s new lol. The 4 UCs are Berkeley, UCLA, UCI, and UC Merced.

The remaining 5 UCSD, UCSB, UCD, UCSC, and UCR do not factor in the personal statement for admission purposes. It’s highly unlikely that the aforementioned four make any distinction on whether or not you’ve reused your essay. Again, it didn’t hurt me as I got into all the UCs but Berkeley my second time applying (I doubt it was for reusing the essay).

Anyway the choice is up to you. If you reread it and can think of improvements, why not do a little revision? Good luck!

Dilapidatedmind, I’ve heard that as well, I talked to a UCSB rep. and she told me they do no factor the Personal Statement unless you have been rejected and file for appeal, or they have applicants who are practically equal applicants then they will review the personal statement.
She may have said that part though to reassure people to apply.
And if that were the case I wonder do the rest do the same as well?

dilapidatedmind,

The first time you applied to the UCs where did you get accepted? and if so where too? :)

I’m not sure I understand your second question because it seems like you’re asking the same thing. Maybe you mean where did I get accept to the first time? And where the second time?

The first time I had a 3.4 GPA with most of the pre-reqs finished for General Biology and was accepted to UCR, UCSC, and UCD (TAG). I didn’t want to go to any of them. The second year I brought my GPA up to 3.67 and completed all but one pre-req and was admitted to all the UCs, except Berkeley, as a Molecular Biology major.
