I got flashed at the red light camera last night, I entered the intersection too late during a yellow light. Its in California, Santa Monica specifically but I live in Los Angeles. Im guessing the ticket is going to be over 400 dollars. I cant afford this and neither can my parents. Both are laid off and I dont work b/c I go to school.

Do you know if I can do community service or something similar to avoid paying this insane fee?

[Home - Fighting Red Light Camera Tickets](http://www.highwayrobbery.net) has information on red light tickets in California. The first step, according to this website, is to make sure the ticket is even real and not a “snitch ticket”.

After that, the website explains the problems with red light camera systems and possible defenses in court.

When I first moved to CA I got a speeding ticket … and I was allowed to go to “traffic school” and have the ticket removed from my record (no points, no fee, no insurance hit) … a very good use of a day (or 1/2 a day I can’t remember). This was eons ago and for a speeding ticket but if it’s an option for you now I’d recommend traffic school.
