Reed Class of 2018 RD Thread

My son was accepted with the following stats:

4.5 GPA (ranked 1 or 2 out of 500ish)
SAT Math - 800
Reading - 720 (?)
Writing - Who cares!

5 AP Classes scoring 5 on all
Taking 3 AP classes in Senior year.

Strong EC: Music + Eagle Scout
Many many community service events (required for Eagle!)
Very strong recommendations

Financial Aid: We’ll be responsible for about $24K/year, so about 35K/year aid, which is decent; we’ve been saving for 18 years. (We have one other in college as well, and a third child who is 16 - groan…) They use the FAFSA and the CSS to determine financial need. If you don’t receive aid then it’s because of numbers, not feelings.

No Reed doesn’t have as huge an endowment as other schools, but they still have a decent-sized one and their generosity will allow my son to attend at a price within the ballpark of state schools.

The campus is gorgeous and serene, probably the antithesis of the reputed coursework. They have a fabulous new arts/music building with wonderful practice spaces which anyone can use, as well as beautiful lecture rooms and performance halls.

Congratulations to all!
