Reed RD Class of 2023

Absolutely no Idea!

Hi, I am an international student from China. I recently received a notification from DHL showing that I have a parcel sent from Reed. So, does anyone know whether rejected international students will also have parcels sent from Reed college? (Try to speculate my application decision of Reed college =_=)

@Great Leo- It is unlikely that they would go through the effort and expense of sending a package to deny you admission.

For US based students, they usually send a box with a copy of the Iliad (now I think it is the Epic of Gilgamesh) along with a letter of congratulations which includes a hand written note stating what they liked about your Paideia essay.

I have zero insight into the admissions process but it should be noted that since they refer back to the applicants essay, it shows clearly that they consider each application in its entirety. It seems to be a thorough and thoughtful process that must add time to the final decision and subsequent notification.

Again these are only my observations, having gone through this process last year with my Daughter.

I’m pretty sure I read that rejected students only get emails on the admissions blog.

@Great Leo I’m pretty sure that means you’re accepted. Congratulations!

Thanks! I hope so. Waiting for the package is really truly anxiously desperate. :frowning:

How will I be notified regarding my admission decision? If I get rejected, will I receive an e-mail on April 1? If I get accepted, do I just wait for my package or will I receive an e-mail too PRIOR to the package?

Hey guys! International student here wondering if the fact that I haven’t received anything/even notifications of receiving anything means that I won’t be getting good news? :frowning: Also, does everyone get email notifications with their decisions too, regardless of snail mail? Lastly, Reed doesn’t send out decisions to everyone on the same day? So they’re rolling? Does that mean they could well go into April? (Can you tell that I’m stressing hahaha).

Congrats to everyone who got in!!!

How did you get your DHL notification? By phone? I’m in China too

@hrsvery718 @s92md23 Last year my daughter was notified via email by the admissions office on April 3rd. I received FedEx notification that a package was on its way on April 4th. We are in the US.

I called this morning to ask when they would finish sending the boxes (i.e., are they done, so that no box means no admission?) and they said everything will be mailed out April 1. And that some are being mailed earlier.

Thanks for calling and getting clarification @momofcskid – good to know there’s still hope for those kids who haven’t received boxes. I will note that getting notified on about April 3 or 4 when their admitted students day (which may be called something else) is April 7 and 8 isn’t… terribly convenient. There’s another on April 14 and 15, but that is far less convenient for us and would still be barely 10 days after receipt. Here’s hoping that at the very least they will have notifications via the portal on the 1st.

I mean, our kid would still love to be accepted at (and attend) Reed. It’s just that Reed itself has a schedule that makes it difficult for some accepted kids to attend, which doesn’t seem like the best way to encourage students to decide to attend.

Has anyone in Central Coastal California received a package?

Has anyone received a package since this past Thursday/Friday? I thought there’d be more posts from students/parents declaring an acceptance by now.

They told me the bulk go out April 1. Not to read anything into not hearing by now…good luck!!

I figured it’s just as well not to hear until next week…gives my kid a week to recover from the hell week that was last week’s rejection week : / Maybe this rejection will be easier to bear with a few days in between…

My son’s been bracing for rejection from almost every private college he’s applied to. Saving grace is a full-ride to our state’s flagship university by way of NMF status.

Just got home from vacation and saw a wonderful acceptance package complete with a book, notebook, pencil, and handwritten note from the dean of admissions about me and a club he thinks I should join!

I did not receive any sort of email though, which is odd…

@camiruth which state do you live in?
