First off, we are not the admissions committee. What you hear from us will only be an educated guess based on statistics from prior years, which are in the public domain. The UC undergrad admissions office is obligated to release detailed data every year. You can easily consult them to find out where you stand.

Compared to those of the Ivies and other privates, UC admissions, especially for in-staters, are highly predictable. Also, psychologically...if we tell you that you're going to make it in, does that really make you feel better? I doubt it. Most likely, the tension will last until the official decision comes in the mail. What if the official decision differs from our predictions? Just wait the month and a half...the days will go by quickly.

The unfortunate fact is that all the chances topics are cluttering up the board, and are disruptive to current students who want to discuss school matters. It would be great if they could be gathered into one thread, or kept to the official Chances forum.

Yeah, people like to ask. I'm not sure why. people tend to be anxious, especially the CC types. The chances threads are on every colleges boards and keeps them alive. UC admissions seem more predicttable than the Ivies and top privates, but have their quirks. It does make people feel better, that's why they ask. Although they clutter the board, they give it life. I'd be fine if each school had its own subforum of chances threads.

It is completely unreasonable to say that CC's clutter the discussion boards. This is indeed the "College Confidential" web blog thing. To me, who signed on today, the question of my admissions to Berkeley keeps me up at night. Admission trends are wonderful, and reliable information, but to deny the freak occurances that happen every year (especially at UCB) is silly. I will love my anxiety. I will embrace it, and I will continue going to my lowly community college classes. I will frequently contact anyone with information that helps me justify my cause, because thats what I need. It is the motivation of personal ambition, and to say that "I" am cluttering up the board is an insult. If you made it into school, why are you on this board in the first place? Most of the topic threads on this site are related to admissions. So, as not to offend in the same way as you, I state very soundly- stop cluttering up the board, and respond to my thread. I am bothered, and I need some goddamn support! Seriously! I've got alumni contacting me about scholarships, I've got strange messages flying at me from every direction, and I need to find out what it means. This is no holy grail, but for godsakes I'll take on the quest!
