who else hates chances threads

who else hates chances threads

I do. Especially at the top tier schools - I think it's pretty well established that once you get to this level, it's about the untangibles, the little nuances that make up a student that you can't see in the typical list of stats, ECs, courses, and speculation about recommendations that the threads bring. I mean, look at the wide range of people who got in on this Stanford board.

For the numbers-based schools, it's pretty easy to see where you fall on the prospective admissions spectrum, so I think chances threads are pretty much useless unless a profro is very uninformed about his/her choices' admission stats.

I hate them unless they are my own..in which case i really appreciate them. Even if they dont inform ppl, they reassure them. That is a large part of what cc is all about

i also hate them lik anythin..kinda irritating when a 2250 sat scorers feels their scores arent gud enough and with a 2300 sat ++ disastrously poor ec they can get in..

SM

Well, while "chances" posts are annoying, I agree with collegecanwait. It's largely about reassurance and comfort.

It's disappointing to see that there are so many obnoxious people all over the forums. But, on the flip side, there still is that wonderful comradery that binds us together in, what is for many of us, the harshest judgment of our young lives.

Cheers.
