Regarding placement exams

Hello guys, I'm going to be a first year next year at UVa, and I was wondering if there are any placement exams for chemistry, physics, math, writing, etc. (I know there is one for spanish and french) Some other schools like UIUC and Rice when they accepted me told me about their placement exams (Rice has the composition exam), so I was wondering if it's the same for UVa. Thanks!!!

AP and IB classes count as placement for some subjects.

Have a look here:

[Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Credit — Undergraduate, College of Arts & Sciences, U.Va.](http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/college/admissions/ap_credit.html)

For writing, there is just the exemption with a score from the writing portion of the SAT exam. Welcome

Sciences: self-placement

Math: self placement

Thanks guys, so Hazelorb, self-placement means that you have complete freedom in choosing higher level courses if you have the AP credit right? Or does it mean you have freedom in choosing higher level classes without considering the lower leveled ones?

There are suggested prereqs, and if you think you know all of that material you are free to take the next level. There are also honors/advanced versions of intro classes if you like that better than skipping a course. I completely skipped calc 1 and no one has ever cared.
