Regarding the why umich prompt?

<p>I know it says to focus on the school/college but would it be alright/relevant to also talk briefly about Ann Arbor and my attractions to its general location, or no? It would only be a very small portion of the essay.</p>

<p>I would advise against it; straying from the prompt isn’t looked upon highly. It’s asking you about why you’re attracted to your specific area of study and the school there that it is part of. It’s not a “why U Michigan instead of other schools” prompt. I’d focus on what it’s specifically asking for.</p>
