Regents Scholarship

When will the scholarship invitation be released?
If you are invited to apply for the Leadership Award...does that mean you are already guaranteed admission?

Regents interviews are released in mid-February.

no to your second question, read the fine print

What is the Regents Scholarship?

"The Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship carries the highest honor awarded by the University of California, Berkeley to entering undergraduates." - UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office: Undergraduates » Types of Aid » Scholarships » Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship

Can OOS applicants get the nomination?

Reads about the scholarship
Ohhhhhh, gotcha. Thanks, doc.

If OOS=Out Of State, it looks like the answer is yes. (Question 7, Q&A Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship)

Does this imply admission?

I've been told that "everybody" gets the email, and that it means nothing.
I've also been told that it's a "great honor" and have been congratulated on admission.

I am lost.

^ Getting an invite for Regent's means your app was one of the best, like Top 10% if I remember correctly. So ya, you're unofficially in.

eternallysleepy, you are confused because there are two different scholarships you're talking about :)

The Regent's scholarship is definitely an honor and Berkeley contacts you if you are eligible- congrats!

The "Leadership" scholarship is open to all applicants.

So has anyone received a letter about the Regents Scholarship? I heard there is an invitation to a luncheon and interview as well.

Yeah all the Regents emails were sent out in the afternoon of 2/13, and then the packages should've been received in the mail by valentines day :)

I'm nervous. My luncheon/interview is this Thursday!

My son did the overnight visit last night and had his interview today. It was an invaluable experience for him. He summed it up: People are really normal there. You hear about how competitive it is, and you think the people will be high-strung, stressed out. In the dorm, and on the campus, he found everyone to be really nice and laid back. He had a lot of fun, and met kids he would like to hang out with. He was impressed that his hosts didn't start studying until around 11:30. He knows they work hard, but the overall vibe was really positive. Cheers, Berkeley! Great University, great student-body.

How did it go, Catalysis? If you did the overnight, what were your impressions? Maybe others who got to do the Regents could give their impressions, too. It would be a nice service for those who didn't get the opportunity, to hear unbiased feedback from those who did.

I actually didn't do the overnight stay because I live about an hour away from Cal (and I had stayed overnight in friends' dorms before). But I thought they day was tons of fun.
I got there at 11am for the campus tour (which lasted about an hour) and then had lunch. The lunch/presentation they planned out was very nice.
I had free time from 1-2ish because my interview was at 3pm with a mathematics professor, so I just walked around campus with my dad. We visited Haas because I want to go into business. The interview went GREAT, my professor was soo nice.

I definitely think the day made me love Cal even more :)

Someone has probably answered this question, but I need a clear answer.
So if I have been invited to the Regent Scholar interview, does that mean I've been accepted to Cal (even though I may not get the scholarship)?

Thanks in advance. :)

^ Yes. (10char)

When my son checked in before his interview the lady shook his hand and said "Congratulations, you're in."

We're pretty sure she was saying that to everyone...

Hey, that's better than an email or a letter!

Did you guys all have good interviews?
