Congratulations everyone! I’m a current Regent’s scholar at UCSB and I was told this year by someone on the scholarship committee that the scholarships are mainly given out based on the essays. I would encourage you all to consider UCSB; it has a great undergraduate program at a beautiful location. $6000 a year isn’t bad either, especially with the UC tuition increases.
Last year after I got the scholarship I was unpleasantly surprised that I didn’t get into any other UCs, which also happened to some other friends who got the Regent’s scholarship. I don’t want to get your hopes down, I just mean that it’s probably best to wait for the actual acceptance letters before you start counting on any one school. Good luck!
