i really want a certain professor for a class - but according to my studentlink, there are only 7 seats left in the only discussion section i can fit into schedule and about 25 seats left for the lecture. there’s also the writing class i want to take: there are only 14 seats left and that’s the only section that i can manage into my schedule. i don’t go to orientation until the 20th and there’s still the HUGE june 13-15 group! is there anyway i can get my current schedule okay-ed by an advisor at BU before i go to orientation as to kinda “reserve” my seat in the class?

you should email the advisor of your school. they want to make you happy so they'll probably try their best.

I received the guide to freshman registration a few days ago. I won't be able to go to any of the june/july orientations (international student) so I'm thinking of using phone-in registration.

i'm pretty sure there's an orientation session at the end of the summer right before school starts for international students and other people who can't go to any other session.

I actually had to change my entire schedule around since I finally got that email from Treci and got placed into a pretty inconvenient discussion section of SM121. Chances are Idson's microecon class will be full by the time you get to orientation. I decided to go with the E1 section of microecon, prof. has yet TBA. You should make variations of your schedule because things fill up pretty quickly so you'll want some flexibility. GL with trying to register before orientation.

P.S. I heard Idson isn't THAT great.

there's PHONE registration now? interesting... i didn't get that guide yet!

haha and odin i found it pretty funny you knew exactly what prof/class i wanted even though i didn't specify! :P based on my numbers huh? lol. and thanks for advice guys... treci is our advisor right? so i just e-mail her and see if she can okay my schedule so far? i have 18.5 credits (wr100, sm121 lec + discussion, ec101 lec + discussion, and ma120 lec + discussion, plus a .5 credit dance class...) which should be fine?

and yeah i just got that e-mail from treci too. i think so many people e-mailed her because a select few on facebook who were like "oh i got this smg email! did you?" that we all panicked and sent her mass e-mails that she resent it

p.s. well i looked at reviews for mani and manove. mani seems like the better of the two, but idson still has much better comments... mani is said to be confusing, finals difficult, while idson has reviews like BREEZE of a class! haha... and TBA... yeah i'm not liking the air of mystery lol

I just remember from a previous post that we had similar profs and I just assumed you were talking about Idson since I was in practically the same position. What discussion section are you in for SM121? And 18.5 credits? I know it's just a dance class, but I heard you can't have more than 18 credits as a frosh.

i'm in b2... you? and yeah i was wondering about the 18 credit issue aswell but i was told it was okay to take a .5 to 1 credit fitrec course if you wanted in addition first semester.

does anyone know if panth is any good for MA120? and also i have ap credit for the two CAS electives we're supposed to take (social and natural sciences), so what do i take in its place? i can't take more than one business class frosh year right?

You can have more than 18 credits as a frosh... It's called overloading but the dance/gym course you take doesn't count towards your major. And, we were told at Orientation that you can't take more than one business course first year... And I signed up for Idson... ratemyprofessor.com painted an OK picture...

-The Overloading Coot66

I'm in B5, I was really hoping I would get B2 but o wells. Hopefully the professor they assign to B5 will be good. So we can take more than 18 credits? Let me take a look at the phys ed courses then.

Where can I find class descriptions, available seats and professors?

There IS an orientation session that is the two days right before the freshman move in dates. All students are REQUIRED to attend one of the orientation sessions. This last one is NOT listed on the orientation schedule that is sent to everyone (at least it wasn't when DS matriculated in 2003). We called because we knew he couldn't be at any of the summer ones (the first was the same day as his HS graduation, and the others were while he was at BUTI...Tanglewood). It was not a problem. He (we) went to that last orientation. HOWEVER, he was able to register for his classes in June. We live locally so we were able to go up to BU for a day and meet with an advisor (not during an orientation time) who walked DS through the class registration process. He was also able to deal with his student ID, and computer access that day (which was part of orientation at that time). Then for the presentations, etc, he (we) attended the last orientation. The plus side is that the students just move into their assigned student housing. The minus side is that there is no on campus housing for the parents (during the summer orientations BU does house parents on campus....for a fee). You do have to have a good reason for not attending the summer orientations...but they were very understanding of DS's issues, largely because MANY of the CFA students participate in summer programs.
