Registering for Classes

Does anyone have any info on which profs are good/bad and other helpful information regarding registration? This is important considering orientations are coming up fairly soon.

<a href="http://www.ratemyprofessor.com/SelectTeacher.jsp?sid=1255%5B/url%5D">http://www.ratemyprofessor.com/SelectTeacher.jsp?sid=1255</a></p>

<a href="http://www.pickaprof.com%5B/url%5D">www.pickaprof.com</a></p>

Does anyone know at orientation, are you speaking to an advisor who's helping you individually? What would they say if you said "Oh, I don't want that prof"?

Hmm, I'm worried that all the good classes will be taken, even if there are 400 people per class. I wonder how many people are going to each orientation?

i'm worried too. gah

dont be worried. if you really want certain professors join a FIG, usually they have the better profs. my roomie is doing one where they have to take Calc, and it's professor gilbert teaching and he's supposed to be the best at UT. and registering itself is a piece of cake. I've done it twice.

Just make sure that once you've registered for classes that you pay your tuition bill when it's due. They don't send you any reminders and if you forget, they drop all of your classes.

i registered at orientation, but when can i add or drop classes outside of my access time?? not sure how to do this

your academic advisor

but i already talked to them. dont i have to wait until afterwards for the add or drop period??

i'm still iffy on figs.

Did you tell your academic advisor to switch the classes around?

As for figs, what exactly are you iffy on?

Thgey require you to take usually 3 classes, and the people from your fig are in those 3 classes, so usually you can form a tighter bond with people since they're in all your classes. its also very good if you're afraid of some classes getting full. plus you still get to pick one or more courses of your own

how do you register for figs?

figs require more obligations, if you want to be more independent, then you could probably make it by without one. umm follow instructions carefully when they give them and turn your thing in on time and to the right place. i missed the deadline.

at your orientation they give you all the info on figs and even a big booklet with them.

and really maxlee, I dont see much in terms of 'more obligations' you just have a weekly meeting with the people in your fig where you discuss what you learned, that's pretty beneficial.

as for doing things on your own, its hard to get certain profs for some courses. Gilbert, for instance is hard to get for calculus and as far as I know the only way to get into his course is via fig.

i havent gone to orientation yet but i want to see which classes have been taken.

so i log in, go to sitemap, click academics, and then what? i always go in a circle.

well i after i log in, and click on the fall 2005, my registration information sheet shows up.

um then i'm stuck.

and really dcfca, did i say that figs were bad? i just said you don't need one to survive, but it would be beneficial. you don't get credit for that fig seminar though, so it's just for the help. besides, i didn't join one because i had credit for at least one of the courses on all of the natural sciences figs so i decided not to.
