Regular Decision Applicants

Nothing here in PA

myjanda - that is exactly what happened to my daughter three years ago - accepted at her first choice school without aid and so could not go. Went to AU because of merit money and has never looked back. For those who did not get the aid you were looking for from AU, you will be fine where ever you go. There is no one perfect place for you - school is what you make of it - your classes, your friends your ECs, etc.

I got in; I’m from Southern MD so I’m close. I got into the Honors Program and received a Presidential Scholarship so I’m BEYOND happy

For those who didn’t get in, don’t sweat it. Seriously. You’ll find a great college, probably somewhere even better than AU. And a college experience is simply what you make it, so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get in to your dream school.
Love you guys!

For everyone who has received their acceptance: was your award letter in the portal completely accurate?

@mgm0909 Still nothing in Florida. Everyone that I know that has applied still hasn’t found out anything, and I’m getting a bit anxious. Hopefully, we’ll get in. Nothing in the mail either.

Got mine today in the morning in Southern California! I got 52,000 in Financial Aid!

For people wondering about the Washington Mentorship Program, basically it goes like this:
Out of 15,000 applicants, AU can only accept 1,600 students into their fall 2014 freshman class. However, there are many more applicants that qualify for admittance and that AU want at their school. So the university offers Spring 2015 admission to some people, with the WMP offered for fall 2014. The WMP makes you still as much a part of the university as fall acceptees. You still live at on-campus housing, have all access to university perks, and attend AU classes. The only difference is that you take a 12-15 credit program, with pre-determined classes (such as writing and math), and additionally you have an internship at a local organization twice a week (you get to pick your internship - they don’t pick for you). Internships include National Geographic, NBC Sports, DCPS, U.S. Senate, Washington Post, etc. And then in the spring, you are admitted into your specific degree program.
So really, it’s not the end of the world if admitted to Spring semester. It’s actually an advantage, as you get real-world experience in your desired field.
Just thought I’d share this knowledge (I have a couple friends who were in the program), so you don’t get too down if not admitted to fall semester:)

Got my acceptance packet today!! So excited!!! I’m probably going to wind up going here too. It was one of my top choices.

Got my acceptance letter. I’m in Texas.
Stats-
31 ACT
female/white applying for International Relations major
4.45 WGPA
A lot of extra curriculars
8 AP courses over hs career
250+ volunteer hours
top 28% of my class
NO merit awards Two loans amounting to 5500.

There’s no way I can afford AU. R.I.P dream school dreams. Will probably attend University of Texas at Austin.
Hope everyone received better awards!

EDIT: My award letter was completely accurate to the online one I saw

@PaniniFan On the side you should have “Personalized Links.” Click on “Financial Aid” and then " Financial Aid: Award Letter." Choose 2014-2015 in the box and you should be able to see it if it’s posted. If not, don’t panic. Mine took a few days.

@goldendoor, yeah you’re right. Interesting that AU doesn’t have a single thing about it on their admissions page. Had to search around the thread from last year. I don’t like it. It just seems kind of… Sneaky I guess? I applied for fall not spring. And no financial aid for the mentoring thing is pretty crappy. Oh well.

Details on the WMP are hiding out here:
<a href=“Processing Redirect”>http://www.american.edu/spexs/mentorship/</a>
Students in this program are not eligible for financial aid for the WMP semester. For many, that limitation makes for an unappealing offer.

@arrozconleche one of my friends from school received her acceptance letter earlier today. I live in South Florida (Miami to be exact) and I’m getting a little worried. :-S

Accepted today in South Jersey.

Moderate to good ECs (few leaderships)
I loved my essays for American, common app and supplemental.
I applied to the PPL program and didn’t get in :frowning: I loved those essays too.
Here is the weird thing; I got a 12k Frederick Douglass scholarship and I didn’t apply for it. (I’ll take it)
Other than that my actual finaid was really lacking because my dad didn’t do Noncustodial Profile.
So probably not attending, but thats ok because I really want BU or GW, heres to hoping.

And FYI, this is my first CC post, but i’ve stalked the various forums for a while now, lol which is odd I know.

@1jdoc1 It’s not weird at all, lol. I did that for a while before I joined CC in December.

@mgm0909 I just checked again right now, and still no change. The sad face with the phrase “No constituency” is seriously depressing me. I don’t know what to think, so I’m guessing I got rejected at this point.

Accepted. What is the washington mentorship program?

so even though my portal has my award letter up, with a total $20,000 in aid and awards, i am the only one in my town who has gotten their decision letter yet…makes me nervous

I live in MA. My application status still says ‘under review’. Did those who confirmed their acceptances see a change on their portal before getting a letter?

all students portals still say under review. you need to make a new acct on the “myau.american.edu” to see other changes if applicable
