Rejected by all, except Georgia Tech

I feel super depressed. I think the reason I got rejected from basically every where, Stanford, MIT, Duke, JHU and probably 6 or 7 others, is because of my crappy 3.6 GPA. My SAT was a 2220, 800M, and 700 and 720 in the others. My SAT II was 800 Math IIC and 790 Chem. My ACT Was a 36 for Math and a 33 composite. Now I'm stuck with Georgia Tech with a full ride...But it's Georgia Tech. I got priority waitlisted at CIT, if anyone can explain to me what this means and how it's different from normal waitlist. Anyone brighten up my mood? Any advice or anything?

I also took Calculus BC in 10th grade and went to an extremely prestigious research project…Does this not count for anything?..

What’s wrong with Georgia Tech if, as implied by your application list, you want to major in engineering or computer science? Especially if you get it for free with a full ride.

Georgia Tech is considered one of the top engineering schools in the US, so you should not worry about future employment or graduate school prospects upon graduating with a good record from Georgia Tech.

nothing to consider lightly

I’m worried about my opportunities and, though silly, prestige. I’m not arrogent but my IQ is very high and I am very good at Math and Science. I wanted to go to JHU for BME so badly. That was my life. I even got rejected from Cornell. Why?!!! I’m looking at a few of my friend’s apps and I have so much better qualifications them theirs. Please tell me what priority waitlist is btw. Also, I just feel as though it is so unfair that some of my friends who are less qualified got into MULTIPLE schools I did. Let me say it again, I am not arrogent at all, just upset.

Let’s see, do you really think that #1 in BME (JHU) versus #2 in BME (Georgia Tech) is really that much of a bump in prestige that would be worth worrying about? (Note that engineering tends to be somewhat less school-prestige-conscious than some other fields like investment banking.)

Even if JHU accepted you, but with far less than a full ride, going to GT for free would be a more attractive option in a lot of people’s minds. This is especially the case with BME not being the best engineering major in terms of job and career prospects.

*Now I’m stuck with Georgia Tech with a full ride…But it’s Georgia Tech. *

Good heavens…a scholarship to GT…congrats!

Did you get a “free ride” (tuition, room, and board)…or did you get “full tuition”? Did you get HOPE? Are you instate?

You’re right, your GPA hurt.

I’m out of state and scholarship for about full tuition and more because of my low income and single parent and financial aid. I would really still rather go to CIT if they accept me. I’m really sad that I didn’t get accepted. I would’ve even chose Duke over Georgia Tech because of it’s “name”

Sounds to me that you should reevaluate you priorities if Tech is really a huge failure for you.

yea are you a presidents scholar at GT?

You’re a prestige-whore. Prestige isn’t everything in life. I chose Michigan over Georgetown.

You got into a top engineering school with a 3.6 gpa and a full scholarship. You should be counting your blessings!

Good heavens…GT is a NAME!!!

It’s recognized everywhere. Who doesn’t respect GT? Who???

I just don’t want everyone being disappointed in me. I mean, I really don’t care that much about prestige but even though GT is #2 for BME, It would sound much better to go to MIT then GT in my opinion.

I’m starting to think you are a ■■■■■, or someone who is extremely insecure.

Sure, you’re not arrogant and you think GT sucks?! Here’s an angle to look at your application: Very high IQ and 3.6 GPA? You just don’t have good work ethics.

Everyone is probably disappointed that a “high IQ” student only managed a 3.6 GPA.

That said…who the heck is “everyone”? Are they people who wouldn’t have been able to get into GT and get the award you got? If so, be disappointed in THEM.

Wow!

This is one of the funniest thread in a long time.

Georgia Tech is like MIT-hard. Anyone who matters knows it.

You mistakenly focus on schools that are hard to get into, but you’ve got a full ride on a school that’s notoriously hard to get through! You say you have a high IQ? Let’s see you get through Georgia Tech.

You are terribly misguided and your priorities are all screwed up. Go to Georgia Tech. After freshman year, when many of your classmates dropout like flies, you’ll be in a place just as prestigious as the others.

My other recommendation is to be humble once you get there. I went to MIT. I’ve seen people as pompous as you get crushed because they were too proud to ask for help because they never had to before.

Go to Georgia Tech, work your butt off and stop yer whining!

No one will be disappointed in you if you graduate with a Georgia Tech degree.

I am not a ■■■■■, I just find it upsetting that I got rejected from all the thee schools I wanted to get into and I want prestige so people think of my as intellectual.
