Kevin,
I wouldn't be too worried. I got into UCLA OOS, but my stats are nothing compared to yours. I think the school may be accepting students more and more on the basis that students like you usually pick Cal over UCLA anyway. Don't be frustrated or panicked because with scores like yours, you are surely going to get into a far better institution!

hopefullybright, do u mind if i ask u about ur stats? im oos and i was rejected :( just trying to figure it out, did u have some kind of hook or connection with ucla?

Asian = Too many Asian ppl in UCLA (I wish i am a Native American >_< )

UCs don't consider race. Don't sweat it-- I am sure you will get into a great school.

Ah, well, you must be real proud..

^^ sarah, I'm pretty sure UCLA is one of the only UCs that actually doesn't put much weight on state residency. I'm OOS and got in... Probably won't get into Cal though.

I'll pee my pants if Cal rejects me, but w/e! "IT IS ONLY COLLEGE!"

Sarah, I hate to dissapoint, but I really have no connection to UCLA. I am, however, low-income, which I heard is a pretty big factor, and I applied as an English major, which is not nearly as competitive as the science and engineering majors.

hey no problem, thanks for the feedback, congratulations!!!

I think ethnicity plays a certain role in admission. Asian has many different kinds of Asian. Maybe, Tran gets in, but Chen can't.

I doubt it. UC's can't consider race. It seems more like they wanted to make sure they admitted kids who would actually attend.

Yeah I got the "Worth to Wait for Berkeley" email too. Did UCLA send out acceptance letters earlier than anticipated and Cal is worried that people will forget about them or something? Seemed a little odd to me.

Newjack88,

Have you filed out 2008 UC application form? UC did ask which kind of Asians you are. At least, 15 kinds of Asians in the list.

I got it too....."From Berkeley: CAL DECISIONS COMING SOON "

Dear XXXX,

Freshman decisions for fall 2008 will be announced on March 27!

We know you're hearing from other University of California campuses, but before you give them your reply, please wait to hear from UC Berkeley: we're worth the wait!

No. I didn't apply to any UCs. I just assumed that Prop 209 (or w/e) banned them from considering race and ethnicity. What exactly are they using the ethnicity for then?

Hey what does that email mean? IS it a hint because i didnt get one for some reason =[

I've always had this thought: Sure, the UCs cannot legally say they take race into account, but who's there to stop them from thinking that way? There's no way of being able to tell that.

hey i didnt get the email, does that mean anything?

yea i got rejected from LA with

SAT: 2230
GPA: 4.1 ish
SAT II MATH: 790
SAT II BIO: 710
SAT II Mandarin: 780

I R asians XD.

anyways i doubt berkeley will accept me because Hass is pretty hard to get into IMO.

o yea if you didn't get that berkeley email don't sweat about it dude, they sometimes mass email and forget people. it happens.

The "race" theory has some truth in it.

Ivy schools, like Harvard, have a seen a dramatic increase in people choosing "decline to state".

i got the email, maybe now i can finally go to bed peacefully. i hope there's truth to the rumor of cal accepting ucla rejects, im so bitter at ucla, my dream school since i was little. i hope ill get into cal. lets hope that letter is a sign or something telling us we got in!

to Newjack88: UC's have scholarships that are based on ethnicity (at least you get to choose them when you apply)
