I think there is an argument to be made about the major your choose and whether or not youll get in. I choose my major, Sociology, because I love doing it. Its an impacted major and I got rejected. Davis San Diego and Santa Barbara accepted me, so I’m not bitter. It would be selfish to be self pitiful about getting rejected to UCLA. However I do believe that, and there is evidence for, easier majors having lower standards. If you really want to live in LA, sure go ahead and change your major to something obscure. It takes bravery to try to get in doing what you really love doing. Dont settle for less fellow impacted majors! Do what you love!

Btw Im not a ■■■■■ I promise. I feel that the statements I have made are objective in many ways. Congratulations to everyone who got in!

@Pessimistic I am majoring in economics.

@ Foothillxfer well said.

I’m appealing and I got into UCD, UCSB, and UCSC. I’m appealing because I REALLY want to go to UCLA. I will exhaust all my options before giving up. I’m not begging them to let me in, I’m asking them to rethink their choice of not letting me in. In the end it is their loss as I am a great Poly Sci student and I have multiple professors who will attest to that.

In the end, the recognition of UCLA, Cal, USC, and Stanford (The most well known California Schools) are all great but you will get no less of an education at any of the UCs or privates. Your education is what you make of it, nothing less. If a professor is not the greatest his class might be tough but you can always pick up the book and try to understand it without his help.

good for you R6MikeL - good luck in your appeals process too. it will be worth it either way considering that UCLA is the school that you really want to go to. just remember that they will be looking for new and compelling information in your appeal…otherwise they wont really take the time to reconsider their choice.

@belkster. I’m not degrading anyone for being accepted into UCLA. I’m stating a fact. It is a fact(and you can argue all you want about it being subjective) that a major such as philosophy or art history(these are just examples) is much easier than majors such as economics, computer science, and some sort of engineering. I honestly don’t see the harm in stating some truth. If it’s your dream to major in philosophy I respect it. You should never be forced to choose a major that you dislike. You should always follow your dream major. I get that. I’ve been accepted to UCSB and UCSD. I don’t feel bitter.

I go to SMC and have taken multiple history/art history/philosophy classes. I’m not going to sit here and make an arguement in regards to any professors being easier/more difficult, but it’s difficult for me to regard a philosophy class equal in difficulty to a calculus class(based strictly on material). You can’t make that argument.

Once again, I respect everyone who follows what they want to study. I congratulate those you were accepted. But if you’re honestly attempting to tell me that majors do not hold weight in terms on difficulty of acceptances, you are kidding yourself.

@cherry thanks. Yeah I have information I withheld from my application because I didn’t want to really bring it to light. Albeit most of it is personal side, it can explain why two of my most recent terms were not the best. Either way the worst that can happen is they say no… again. In that case I’m happy to move on. If I don’t appeal I will always wonder “what if.”

R6MikeL,
I agree with you! I told my friend that it’s not bad to appeal the decision. He won’t ever wonder “what if?” Does UCLA have a waitlist though? I wasn’t sure about the answer to that?

Major: Pre-Psychology
GPA: 3.63 [Major GPA: 4.0]
No TAP
IGETC Completed
Pre-requistes Completed

D:

@HPFan13 I don’t think they have a wait list as I have never heard of anyone getting on it. If they do they don’t put many people on it.

denied for american lit & culture, 3.5ish gpa tap certified. missing many pre-reqs so i wasn’t holding my breath. for the sake of tap i probably should have put women’s studies, or something along those lines, as my alternate. stupidly put comm studies =/
ah well - moving on and waiting for cal’s decision. good luck people.

Can any of you guys fill out the housing application still for UCLA? Please check for me :/

So I can call (310) 825-3101 from Monday - Friday 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and find out why I was I rejected? What information should I have at hand when I make the phone call?

Thanks!

@ pessimistic. i called earlier today (was only on hold for about 5 minutes)…i told the lady i spoke to that i was denied admission as a fall transfer and wanted to know what the reason was for rejection. she only needed my app ID and she was able to access my application within a few seconds to tell me. and yeah…thats the number i called

Definitely appeal. People make mistakes. UCLA admins did on my app last year, and my appeal was successful.

Do call, and call until you get different people and someone will finally tell you why you were rejected. I had to call 3 times to find out why last year :/. As it turned out, they had overlooked one of my completed prereqs. Hopefully for those of you who were rejected, this is perhaps why. There are thousands of applications, and some things do get overlooked.

Emil, what do you mean prereq was overlooked. I am living my life vicariously through you right now

As in: I took Human Biology (a prereq for the psych major from my CCC)…and they happened to not notice that I took it :/.

As I discovered from talking to a bunch of people, UCLA is REALLY strict about prereqs. I know a girl here that was rejected from UCLA with a 4.0 as a psych major for missing a prereq. As I also found out, if you -are- missing a prereq, your app is placed in one pile and if you aren’t, your app is placed in an entirely different pile :/.

Last, I’ll just say that in my case, I found out that student workers are sometimes the ones that sort out the applications and cross-reference them on assist.org for prereq completion…and yeah, regardless of whether it’s kids or adults, ppl make mistakes, but this is somebody’s collegiate future! lol

@emil

Yeah i got rejected for anthro, and i am missing one of the prereqs but that is because it is not offered at my CC or the 4 others around me for that matter.

Do you think they may have noticed that since i didnt say it on my application?

They’re supposed to notice that sort of thing, but like I said, sometimes they won’t pick up on it due to seeing so many apps in a day or a simple mistake.
