Today I opened my mailbox and found a USC letter. I expected a mid year report letter, but I got a freaking letter telling me that I pretty much didn't get a scholarship and that I shouldn't think i'm rejected yet. It also said that I won't hear from them again until around the begining of April when I find out if I got accepted or rejected. It's so freakin obvious that I got rejected and they are so preping me for it :-(.

uhhh, wait a minute. I definitely don't recall USC sending scholarship rejection letters. Otherwise, I would've had one myself last year.

Maybe they're changing things a bit this year. Anyone else get a scholarship rejection letter?

i got one too, and it says that they've already accepted 15% of the number of applicants they offer admission to. I hope this doesn't mean I'm being rejected in late March since it says that's when I'll get the decision.

I got that letter too. I don't think it's a bad thing though. It said sometime along the lines that 17,000 applied for scholarships for the Dec. 10th deadline and only 1,200 got them. (Presidential & Trustee Scholarship)

It did however go onto say that even though I was not considered for those scholarships, I may be considered for others.

And out of the 8,400 spaces open, it said only 15% have been notified of being accepted so we shouldn't worry.

It's not a rejection admissions letter per se, so I hope it's nothing to really worry about.

That letter came out a lot later last year, I had already gotten my acceptance; I think the acceptance came in early March. The scholarship letter came in early April, followed almost immediately by a couple of letters that I had gotten other scholarships, I ended up changing my first choice National Merit school to USC and got the Presidential scholarship anyway, which you can do if you're a NMF and decide to go to USC.

It also said you should submit your MYR.

I applied by the 10th and have not heard anything from the school. Nothing. Oh, I got the USC book a while back. That's it. I sent my MYR online as soon as I got my grades so it makes sense i did not get a letter asking for them. But the silence is killing me! What do you think? No news is good news.......or bad news???

If you sent in your midyear report online, do you still have to mail usc a copy of your report card?

yes you do.

17,000 applied and they admit 8,400 ... that's almost 50% acceptance rate,
comparable to the UC's. I wonder what the matriculation rate, perhaps
it's less than 50%. I don't think the freshman class is more than 4,000.
Without a scholarship USC is definitely looking like second choice for me!

blaw, i agree. ugh USC, while not in the top 10 most expensive colleges (Hamilton is -.-;;), is still in the upper percentile. if they don't give me money, i'm gonna go somewhere else, get famous, and write USC a letter taunting them. xD Hahah ahh dreams...

umm 17000 apply for scholarships, usc gets 340000 applicants

i mean 34000* lose a 0

true yesforcollege, USC is also increasing in raking every year

the school is especially strong in verious programs like cinema, guitar etc. and in my opinion, worth every penny

hahaha my acadec coach said one day "you know how i know the magnet program is going downhill? b/c people are actually applying to USC!!!"

but then again, he went to UCLA

rivalries are awesome.

Official applicant, acceptance, matriculant, and scholarship numbers:

I just got that letter too and i cant figure out if its a good or bad sign...I dont know why they would bother sending us a letter to prep us for rejection but who knows. My friend got a letter asking her for a midyear but all it said was "we want to know more about you, please send your mid year report." I cant figure out why they would have two variations of mid year report letters and why they're notifying us to say we DIDNT get a scholarship....

well, we applied early, on december 10th, which is sort of like "USC's early-action equivalent", except for scholarships. If my notion is correct, your friend probably applied after dec. 10th which is why she didnt get the shcolarship letter, and instead got a mid-year report request. Also, for scholarhsip applicants, you are supposed to send a mid-year report, it says so on the USC site, but for regular applicants, you only have to submit your mid-year request if they request it.

Today I got a letter (dated Feb. 13) that gave me information on filling financial aid and requesting tax return stuff. But I haven't been asked for a midyear report or gotten a letter about being rejected for scholarships yet either. I also applied before the Dec. 10 deadline.
