P.S. Any current Johns Hopkins students would like to read my admissions essay? It's pretty hook-ish.

Your IB score is low…usually the IB people accepted have a 40, the one thing that is different from JHU admissions compared to other top schools is I feel that its almost like graduate school admissions because they do care about experiences that prove you want to study the major so that should be a boon to you. What exact type of east asian studies do you want to study? If you want literature JHU is not the place to go, our EAS program is more focused on history, history of science, and political science.

@BlueJayBJ - AHAHAHA. If you’re applying A&S like he is, then everyone is “Undecided” at first. The school encourages you to take a few classes before you decide. I do remember when I applied (years and years ago, sob) that there was a Common App supplement that asked you about a major you were interested in, but I think they were looking more for passion/interest than actual experience. It’s unrealistic to expect the student body to understand what they’ve come to university to study

@hugedilemma - I don’t know about IB grades, but if BJ is right and they’re low, you’re going to need higher SAT scores to supplement that. Writing is a little low. Int’l does put you at a bit of a disadvantage, but I wouldn’t count you out. Good luck!

I feel your pain…I was rejected from Dartmouth :P

You definitely have a chance.

You have a chance, but it’s a crapshoot for all applicants…

Dude sorry to tell you I graduated a while back when I was accepted for east Asian studies my entire app was taylored to study eas and in my admissions packet I got a nice letter about the eas program and how was admissions council was impressed with my passion towards the discipline so majors can matter

BJ, while that may be true, it is the policy of JHU to admit applicants without regard to their indicated major or school(except BME). That being said, once you start writing essays and other things on the subject, it becomes more than just an “indicated major.”
