Rejected from UCR, should I be worried?

<p>UC Riverside was the first UC to get back to me, telling me I was rejected. This came as a bit of a shock, considering UCR was my 'safety'. I honestly thought I was slightly overqualified for UCR, but seeing this, my hopes for UCI and above (if any UC at all) are quickly dissipating.</p>

<p>My SAT is in the 2000 range, and my GPA is above 3.5. I may wishfully delude myself for the next few weeks that I was rejected on grounds of over qualification, but would rather someone tell me how it really is. My ECs were definitely lacking as were hours in community service, but not non-existent entirely.</p>

<p>I was also rejected from CSU LB a few days prior, and this is getting me really down.</p>

<p>Epicer: what is your major, where are you from, and where else did you apply?</p>

<p>Hi, thanks for your response.</p>

<p>I believe my first choice was either Information Systems Management or Business Administration - not highly impactive majors I wouldn’t think. I moved into California only a few months ago, so I’m technically not a Californian resident as of yet. I’ll be treated as an out of state student for the first year of college. I hear Riverside, Davis etc. are not very acceptive of OOS students for reasons that elude me. Wouldn’t they be making more money?</p>

<p>I applied to all other UCs aside from Merced. Outside of that, I applied to a number of CSUs.</p>

<p>Did you have all of the a-g requirements fulfilled, including the art/music one (it appears that many OOS applicants are missing this one)?</p>

<p>[Freshman</a> admission profile | UC Admissions](<a href=“http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/riverside/freshman-profile/index.html]Freshman”>http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/riverside/freshman-profile/index.html) indicates that, relative to admitted students last year, your GPA is lower, but your SAT is higher.</p>

<p>CSULB is one of the more impacted CSUs. Note that CSUs admit by major, so that if your major is popular at CSULB, the admission standard may be quite high.</p>

<p>If you get shut out, there is always community college followed by transfer to a UC or CSU. See <a href=“http://www.assist.org%5B/url%5D”>http://www.assist.org</a> for transfer planning.</p>

<p>Well I would be a little worried if that was your backup plan. I was accepted to both school. There is still a chance that you could be accepted by another school, maybe those school were very impacted this year since people consider UCR a backup plan and a lot of people apply to CSU LB</p>

Thanks for the assistance everyone. Funny how this turned out - 3 weeks after making this thread in 2013, I was actually accepted to UCLA and Alejandra Ramirez contacted me about applying for Regents, which I ended up getting. Here’s the e-mail for any prospective Freshmen admits to look out for:

"Congratulations on your admission to UCLA! Because of your outstanding academic record, you have been selected to compete for the UCLA Regents Scholarship.

The UCLA Regents Scholarship represents one of the highest honors awarded to entering students at the University of California and offers a merit award of $2,000 per year for four years. Scholars who have additional financial need, based upon a review of their FAFSA, are awarded up to their demonstrated need with additional scholarships and grants.

Regents Scholarship applicants will be evaluated and selected by the UCLA Faculty Committee on Honors, Awards and Prizes. Scholarship decisions will be released and scholars will be notified of their award in late April.

If you wish to be considered for the UCLA Regents Scholarship, please submit the application along with a letter of recommendation, from a teacher or counselor, by April 15, 2013.

Both application and letter of recommendation must be submitted on-line.

Please click https://sa.ucla.edu/fao/regentsscholarship? for the application and additional information.

Best wishes! We look forward to receiving your UCLA Regents Scholarship Application!

Sincerely,

Alejandra Ramirez

I guess college admissions is a crapshoot as an international student. UCLA didn’t have the right campus climate or academic opportunities for me, so I ended up transferring to another university after my Sophomore year - best of luck to anyone who was in my position. Don’t lose hope because some people thought you couldn’t make it
