Rejected from UT - and I'll tell why it gets me mad

admissions counselor, Amy Yearwood

Where do I find out who my admissions counsellor was?

logged into www.bealonghorn.com and it says underneath the Announcements section

Michael Orr, what can he do for me?

Cruiser, I had Amy Yearwood and lower stats than you and still got into the Liberal Arts college?

Way to cheer 'em up

I also had Amy Yearwood.

i dont think those are your admissions officers...they're your counselors who are nothing but contacts for info and guidance because they live somewhat near you. i'm not sure they have all too much to do with admissions decisions...

Yeah they don't really do much, well mine didn't tell me anything I didn't know and even didn't know some of the things I asked her. I think they're just solely there for advice on the things they know.

Faxanadue:
Congrats on your acceptance. This is all that that the website says for me:

After careful review of applications from a highly competitive pool, the Admissions Committee at UT Austin is not able to offer you admission at this time. Approximately three times as many students apply each year as we are able to enroll.

I'm not trying to be negative. I just find the admissions process very weird. I believe that Cruiser was very qualified to be admitted into UT, and so are alot of the people in this forum. And I agree when people say that Texas needs to get rid of the Top Ten percent law.

texdad:
Apparently UT has no wait list

To appeal a decision, you must submit a letter (we do not consider e-mail appeals) stating why you feel the admissions decision should be contested. Include any new information that is pertinent to your academic file including explanations of hardships you endured, resumes, or an explanation of circumstances beyond your control that you feel may have affected your admission decision.

To be considered for an appeal, you must provide new information that was not previously included with your admissions application.

Mail your letter to:

The University of Texas at Austin
Office of Admissions/Appeals
P.O. Box 8058
Austin, TX 78713-8058

Or fax it to 512-475-7478.

The University of Texas at Austin maintains no admissions waiting lists.

if you really want to go there you should appeal, a good amount of people who get accepted into UT don't enroll which leaves room for the appealers. But make sure you put in NEW academic info, they won't consider stuff that was already in your original application and "UT is my dream school" just won't cut it.

^^

I'm not going to have new grades in the time I need to appeal, any suggestions?

mymuffin, how about the grades from the first semester? Or perhaps a later class ranking? Another honor? Get a few new things of some sort and appeal. Despite the announced requirment of newness. It may not be that important in reality. Maybe the fact you appeal will be enough. Even UT might respond to such demonstrated interest.

Did you do extra community service hours? I see that you like forensics. Did you do anything that is noteworty in Forensics? Did you do any competitions in Business Club? Those are just a few suggestions.

How seriously would UT even look at an appeal? Maybe it would be a good idea because then they will look over everything, including the new information you posted.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=20019
those are my stats

I just faxed my appeal to them. I explained to them why certain activities were dropped over time (lack of time), why some were started part way through (Business Club and History Club). I noted in detail achievements in forensics, making a point of the fact that English is not my first or most fluent language. Academically, I mentioned I have the determination in me to take the hardest course load at my school, and will continue to challenge myself at UT.

I'm not hoping for much, maybe I'll get a letter in June telling me they looked at the appeal and they still can't offer me admission, but they wish me well. I'm under the assumption they will believe in their initial rejection.

meh, I'm slowly getting over it.

My plane leaves for Kansas in about 3 hours (50 seat plane :yikes: ). I really hope I love it, so I can forget about Texas. I can't make up for the school I always wanted to go to, I'm just hoping to find a great alternative.

Going to Pitt on Thursday too
