Rejected...Now what?

Hey guys, just wanted some advice.
I was rejected from Tufts (which was actually my second choice, but very close to my first, which I was also rejected by) and I'm going to try to transfer in after one year.
Because of lovely financial aid packages, my choices have been limited down to NYU and George Wash U.
Which of these two schools would you consider as better
(I'm going to try to transfer and major in intl. relations)
Any input would be much appreciated!

Either, as long as you do really well in your classes and get involved in some serious way with at least one extracurricular (don't spread yourself too thin). Make sure to get to know a professor or two somewhat well that will be able to write you recommendations for Tufts in the spring. Good luck!

Also, take up a musical instrument or learn how to sing or something. That helped me I think, especially since I only had a 3.7 at 8th tier state school but still transferred in somehow.

The essay is what will help you out alot though.

My step-son is Intl relations at NYU and loves it.
I mean, NYC or Washington?
Budget accordingly though!

I think you should just choose the school you like the best and commit to it. Those are two good schools you could have a good time at, but it's not going to be as fun if the whole time you're focusing on transferring.

I got lousy fin aid at NYU and great aid at Tufts. So I guess it is one of those mysteries. Anyway, I visited NYU and didn't like it. The adults - not the students, but the admissions officers, financial aid officers, professors, even the president - seemed a bit snobby to me. There was a lot of "we let you in, but we still don't think this is the place for you", at least to me and the other 500 or so people visiting at the same time as me. It was very weird. Anyway, don't take my word for it. Get some more opinions first.

I think you were fortunate to get into two great schools. I know students at both schools and they all like their schools. I would think that GWU would be great for international relations because of its location in DC and IR in NYC would be great too. I'm assuming that you visited both schools. I would go with your gut reaction, pick the school that you like the most. You may find out that after a year at one of those universities that you may not want to transfer to Tufts. Good luck.

Snobbery at NYU? You've got to be kidding me. Wasn't that a commuter school up until about 15 years ago?

Yep, it definately was...

...but then Theodore Huxtable started going there and all of the sudden they started jumping up in the rankings. Now they act like they've been there for years. C'mon son.

I'd still pick NYU though. I've heard GWU is like a school for rich kids that aren't all that motivated. It's an expensive school for rich kids that couldn't get into any school in the top 50. The type of place where students dress for a 8:00 AM Monday Morning Class the same as they would if they were about to go out on Saturday Night. Whole kennels of ridiculous people that are more into themselves than one ever should be. That and the student body is from Long Island.

But that's just what I've heard, read and seen so what do I know?

Thanks for all the advice guys.
The predicament I'm in is that up until now, I never really considered either school, so I don't have a preference and the only reason I'm going to either is so that I will be able to transfer to a school I like! GWU did give me almost a full ride, but for some reason I didn't get accepted into the honors program.
I have no idea what I want right now. blah.
