I’m an asian boy but not one of the stereotypical nerdy one. I have a high gpa, 2160 sat score, 34 act, 800 math 2, 770 physics as my standardized test scores. Have taken 13 out of the 18 AP classes my school offers, passed all of them. I have a ton of extra curricular activities such as robotics, other science stuff, varsity water polo and varsity swim as well as an incredible amount (imo) of leadership in various academic teams and clubs and student council. I think i will get pretty decent (like “A” level) letters of rec from my teachers and counselor and im going to try to distinguish myself from other asians in my essays. What are my chances of getting into pomona, harvey mudd, uc berkeley, cornell and other uc with all the Afirmative action stuff going on?? THANKS!
What makes you non-stereotypical? Swimming, robotics, science clubs, academic teams sound pretty asian.
UC’s banned affirmative action so race will not be considered in your admission decision. What is your UC GPA weighted/capped and fully weighted? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Also what is your unweighted GPA?
Intended major?
I really want to get into berkeley’s new MET program, combination of both economics/business and their EECS program. My weighted UC gpa is currently 4.6818 but my school inflates like crazy. If no berkeley, i want to get into claremont mckenna or harvey mudd for buisness/engineering
@classy2017 I’m part of the student council where i have been really invovled. I have been a dual sport varsity athlete (polo and swim). I guess what im really trying to say is that I’m not like a nerd at all, maybe because of the people who live in my area. I try to have a life as much as I can. True, the stuff i do really makes me look asian but its really my positive outgoing, energetic, personality that I think makes me different. I tend to get along with pretty much antone, the super smart people, the athletes, the leadership kids, and teachers, rather than kinda resigned and non-talktive. (sorry this is kinda long, idk if u agree but thats what a lot of the asian kids are like around me
What is your unweighted GPA? Also regardless of how your HS weights, the UC’s weight based on their own formula along with any of the other schools you apply. UW is what is important for CMC/Harvey Mudd/Cornell along with your HS rigor.
I think UCB, CMC and Harvey Mudd are all within Reach. It will probably come down to your essays and LOR’s to help differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack.
Good Luck.
Unweighted gpa is 3.9744 bc of one B+ in APUSH (i was 0.1% away :)) but would u say that the essays or LOC are more important?? imo it would be the essays but idk
I wouldn’t say essays, EC’s and LOR’s are more important but these are the areas that will make you stand out as an individual from the rest of the high stat applicants, especially the essays.
