Ohhhhhhh well.

Oh no! I'm so sorry =(

Running out the door now but more later.

hugs

Oh god, I'm sick.... I feel awful for you. :(

Sorry! I'm sure you'll get into a great college

GW and Umich are my next choices. I guess my GPA was too low.

My GPA is my problem area too (deferred). Best of luck with other colleges!

Upward trends?

yeah, plus I go to a competitive school, tough courses, personal crisis, etc.

I had an upward trend too (higher GPA every semester, 4.0 unweighted junior year), but only a 3.55 overall. My school is a top 50 US public high school, and I had a 1490 and was sports editor of our best in state paper. I didnt really have any other good ECs though. My essays were good, I think, JJsmom did a great job editing them (thanks for that) and my reccomendation should have been good too. I wish they would list a reason why...oh well.

Wow, your stats are way better than mine... I'm really sorry that you didn't get in!

I bet you had some super extra curricular though. I really only had sports editor, which I dont even know if that counts because journalism is a class, and most of the work is done in class.

Someone suggested I appeal on the basis that I got lost in the shuffle and was forced to do a last minute phone interview, which doesn't work to my strengths. Is this even possible? If so, ANY chance of it working?

Lefty, you're also geographically desirable. I'm from MD...

Just read your stats...you have some insane ECs. That helps a ton. I also took half as many APs as you

I hope you can appeal. I had major interview issues as well (my interview didn't take place till Dec. 9, which means that it probably didn't count at all). Then again, because the interview isn't required, they might not take it into consideration that you only got a phone interview. Worth a shot, though! Good luck! And if not, there are lots of great colleges out there, and I'm sure you'll find a place where you'll be happy and succeed (GW is awesome!).

Thanks lefty, I'm sure I'll like wherever I go too. I have a question though: I don't want to sound ****y, but I feel like I should be able to get into either UMich or GW, so do I have any chance AT ALL at a school comparable to Tufts, like Georgetown or Northwestern (those are comprable, right?) ? I feel like I probably wouldn't considering I showed MAJOR interest in Tufts, applied Early Decision (both of which Tufts is known for liking a lot...) and still got flat-out rejected. Please be honest, as I would rather not waste my time if I don't have a chance.

On another note, are there any other schools comprable or slightly less competitive than Tufts, Georgetown, and Northwestern that I am overlooking and should consider? I'd prefer not to go south of DC or west of Michigan, so that kind of limits my options, but maybe I'm missing a good school. Thanks a lot in advance. I appreciate all of everyone's help.

I can't help you in terms of Georgetown chances- I'm applying there RD now, and really crossing my fingers! Both Georgetown and Northwestern are extremely competitive and it's often almost arbitrary as to who gets in and who doesn't, but I think you should definitely give it a shot- you don't have much to lose (word of advice- the Northwestern application is a pain in the ass). Washington University might also be worth looking at- it's really good, and in the same ballpark selectivity-wise, but maybe a little bit less so than Northwestern due to lack of name recognition.

As for other schools, I'm applying primarily to liberal arts schools, and I don't know if those are too small for you, but Macalester is really good, as are Vassar, Oberlin, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, and Haverford. They're all really great schools with a lot of intimacy but a little less competitive than Tufts, Georgetown, etc. (actually, Bowdoin, Wesleyan and Haverford are probably comparable). I know you said you don't want to go far west, but the Claremont colleges in CA are great as well. :-) Then again, most of those schools I mentioned are really small (between 1000 and 3000 students), so it's all a question of what you're looking for. Hope that helps.

By the way, I'm Jewish...does that help my chances at Georgetown?

Strange how you'd consider Georgetown Miranda, especially if you're a diehard liberal :)

Is Georgetown really conservative?

Oh well... I'd like to be around people who have different perspectives so I won't just be preaching to the choir (hence Georgetown and Claremont McKenna).

Plus, it's hard to resist the political atmosphere/opportunities of DC
