Rejection Appeals 2010!

^whoo hoo lucky 200th post. maybe that means something lol

Hey everyone, I’m new to CC but I’ve been lurking ever since I applied to Thorton (Music Industry) last Fall. My status has pretty much stayed the same and since reading some of the stats of the people who’ve applied to USC as well, I’m really worried about my acceptance.

Long story short, my GPA sucks. It’s gotten much better since submitting my application and is well on the track to get even better after this semester.

My issue is, is appealing the decision even worth it? I haven’t heard from USC and my status has been “We are reviewing your application…” for a while now. I’m anticipating a rejection, which is scaring me because USC is the ONLY school for me. The location, the major, the campus, everything- I REALLY want to be a Trojan.

Can some of you share what you wrote in your appeal or included to perhaps sell yourself (it sounds so wrong but that’s essentially what we’re all doing) so that I can begin preparing my appeal?

^ Hasn’t the appeal deadline passed?

losingmemeories

You must be a potential transfer student? I am not sure if you can appeal transfer decsions or not. Call USC admissions and ask.

QUESTION!: For those of you that have appealed, when you log into the USC Connect Portal and check the application status, what does it say? I’m just worried, because mine mentions nothing about having received my appeal or anything, but rather: “We have acted on your application and mailed our decision…blah blah”. Goodluck to you all, and ONE MORE DAY GUYS :)

I AM a transfer student and if transfer decisions can’t be appealed, then I’m screwed. My only other options are to wait out another year at my CC. Gah, I can’t take this place anymore! I want to be a Trojan!

Did you bring your appeal into Admissions personally or send it in registered mail? If not, did you call to make sure that that the appeal was received in a timely manner?

As far as appealing Thornton, if you applied as a freshman the date for appealing the decision is long over. If you applied as a transfer and are/were rejected call Admissions for an appointment. Call Thornton for an appointment to see if they can assist you.

When you log onto the portal it should show the date your appeal was recived. If it does not you should call USC admissions as soon as possible.

my status on the portal hasn’t changed either! should i be worried? :'(

Are you sure? I called their office after I sent my appeal (sometime in April), and I asked them if they received it. I sent it by FedEx, and the lady at USC said that someone in the office signed for it. But, it does not say anywhere on the portal that they received it or when they received it. Where would it say this? I’m pretty sure they got it, so I’m just wondering.

Statuses have always been unreliable. If USC told you they received it, I wouldn’t worry. But call again if you want to assuage your worries.

Call again and tell them you have looked on the portal and do not see a date on it showing your appeal was entered into their system. I am so glad you got a receipt just in case. I don’t mean to worry you about it but i do think it would be wise to follow up with them just in case.

hey guys i just got off the phone with a USC admissions counselor. My status hasn’t been updated at all on the portal but she said the received my appeal and my file is complete; decisions will be sent out by email tomorrow.

If your portal status was not updated, don’t worry about it! :]

My appeal never showed up in the documents portal. I emailed them and they said that it shouldn’t show up there, but they confirmed that they had received it.

I’m an appealing freshman too, and my status is “acted upon.” This is the first time I’ve checked it since I got the rejection letter. I’m trying not to care about statuses this time around.

I just called the Admissions Office as well, and they have received it, YES!. They also mentioned, only those with successful appeals will be notified via email tomorrow, and the rest will hear from the mail. GOODLUCK TO EVERYONE!! :)

Ah so glad to hear all the appeals made it safely into the system.

DreamupsidedOwn You actually got an acted on?

This is all so exciting!

I think dream is saying it never changed from the “acted on” she got before receiving her (initial, misguided) rejection.

where did you email to check if they received the appeal letters? question to anyone who emailed admissions.

also, by what time will the emails be out by to tomorrow?

lol yes exciting. in my case, ‘nerve wracking’ fits the description a bit more.
