So who else is planning on appealing? I haven't actually gotten a letter yet but it'll probably be here any day and I'm not feeling too hopeful.

Does anyone have the appeal instructions that come with the letter?

Does anyone have the appeal instructions that come with the letter?

yeah i might appeal. it says to send in everything by april 12 and they will let us know by may 13 whether or not the appeal was successful. it says to

1) include a cover sheet providing your full name, USCID, name and location of school you attend, current mailing address, telephone number, email address
2) a one page statement from you telling us why you wish a review of our decision. we are most interested in new and compelling information that was not a part of your original application
3) a copy of your most recent transcript

send it to:

admission decision appeal

los angeles, CA 90089-0911

may 13th? That’s after you commit. **** that. USC can lick my taint

I don’t have any other options besides community college because the schools that accepted me gave me bad financial packages. :(

I’m in the same boat, dream. Expecting rejection letter tomorrow, and I’ve been writing my appeal in my mind during this whole waiting process haha. Btw, didn’t mean to call you a ‘‘buzzkill’’ in the other thread, was referring to the upsetting information that you gave us.

Same boat as both of you. I’m gonna go to community college unless this appeal works out. I really have nothing to lose at this point except maybe an hour or two writing my appeal. We’ll see.

I will send an appeal.

Why does every college that accepted me have to be so far from LA and every one that denied me so close?

I speak from experience because my daughter appealed and won. (not the one currently attending). You must write a compelling letter giving new or greater emphasis on information that they either don’t have or you didn’t emphasize enough. FYI: two hours for a letter that can change your life? Perhaps not enough time to fully engage in the subject IMHO.

Make VERY sure that your counselor/teacher wrote your recs in the first place (my daughter’s counselor “forgot”). If the counselor is one your side and all docs are in order ask the counselor to make a call. IF the counselor isn’t on your side have a vice principal/principal make the call. This will assist you especially if you are from a feeder school.

Make an appointment to plead your case in person, if possible.

And good luck!!! Wherever you end up I hope that you find your dreams.

Dream, you should appeal if you truly are rejected.

I’m appealing. I seriously cannot see where my application failed.

I’m not appealing. I moved on by mid March. Michigan gave me a grant and USC would have cost more without any scholarships.

I think there is a lot of merit in appealing if USC is your dream school. I think they are in for a big surprise when matriculation time rolls around. This year the matriculation rates are going to be very low … the number of HS seniors have decreased from last year, but the number of applications have increased. Everybody sand bagged and applied to a lot of colleges. Now the top students have to choose among many more admission offers. That means opportunity for those on the wait list and appeal list.

I’m definitely appealing (if I get rejected, which I will)… I feel like a lot has happened to me since the (really early) Dec 1st deadline that would have helped my application. I’m not really sure how important some of it is but I think it could work in my favor. I’ve gotten EXTREMELY involved in all of my ECs (and I won awards in them). I also was one of the top scores at my school for a statewide standardized test that seniors take every year. It feels like a lot has happened recently that I could talk about.

Dream…really? If all that has happened then I would appeal the very second I got a denial. That is important and significant information.

I just hope it’s enough. I mean, if I got rejected by USC I think that means I also got rejected by SCA. I don’t think it would appeal my SCA decision. I also don’t think USC would be as welcoming of my 3.3 GPA as SCA could have been.

So in the appeal…basically make myself look prettier than what I displayed in the application?

I asked the admission officers what people write about in their appeal letters. Apparently people “give information on previous health conditions, tragedy, stress, etc that may have not been included or emphasized enough”.

I mean, rationally it makes sense, especially if a tragic event dramatically effect one’s life in high school, but it sounds like to me they’re saying “Feed us a good sob story that will explain your crappy grades”

Sorry if I offend anyone who suffered a traumatic event that affected their HS life/transcript/scores/GPA etc. I must confess I am very mad at the USC admin officers right now, but my intention is in no way to offend anyone of you or make light of your plight.

Not appealing. If over-qualified students (not saying that I am) got rejected, then USC clearly does not know how to work the admissions process. They’re not worth the time, energy, or effort. I have UCLA.

I might appeal but if they respond after May 1st I’m just going to say forget it

Texniation: They give you a reply after May 1, but they also give you instructions on how to switch from one college to another after sending in the SIR too should your appeal work out.

From the attachment that I was given along with my rejection letter, the results of one’s appeals will be released on THURSDAY, MAY 13, 2010. :[
SO I don’t think i would go through with it. i would probably go to UCLA or Berkeley
