Re: rejections – some key points to keep in mind. We heard statistics last year that a caucasian girl of a “normal size” (meaning not super tall, super short, super heavy or super thin) would be accepted on average to 2 MT programs for every 15 she applied to. Those aren’t great odds. The odds for boys are better. And some said the odds for those of different ethnicities is better too. I have no official statistics for any of that - just what we’ve seen and heard. But it did seem to bear true for most people we know.
The other thing to keep in mind is you only need 1 acceptance to end up where you are supposed to be! We have friends who did not get in anywhere – and I mean no other school - except their dream school, NYU. We know kids who got in to 8 or more programs and had lots of choices. We know many who got into 2-3 programs. We know some who are now completely happy in schools that were not in their list of top choices but now they can’t imagine studying anywhere else – so keep an open mind!
Rejections are no fun - but they don’t mean you are not talented. It just means that that school at that time did not have a need for someone of your type and skills. But there will be a school that is thrilled to have you on board. Don’t take rejections too personally. Easy to say…hard to do.

So, do odds increase or decrease for the tall, short, fat , thin, and ethnic? Good grief!

^^^ Depends on the school. Some look to put out “cookie cutter” type kids, some like to develop diverse talent. One of the things I loved about Boco, and especially watching their main stage productions WAS the diversity. If you are as mentioned by actingmt (shaped or look different) you will increase your chances of being accepted greatly if you are an excellent actor.
