<p>Roughly 1800 applied to SS last year, and about 350 attended each session (so, 700 total). About half of those who attend SS are appointed to the Academy. Thus, about a third (if that) of the incoming class is made up of SS attendees.</p>
<p>Being rejected to Summer Seminar is not the end of the world. There is a thread similar to this (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=303260&page=6%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=303260&page=6</a> and the subsequent pages) with some great advice - allow me to paraphrase:</p>

...[it] is not the end. You've got another half a year to better and improve your resume. Look to the future, learn from the past, and use this temporary roadblock to strengthen your resolve and prove them wrong. - usafa21astr [This is probably my favorite one.]

All that you did will help on your Academy application. Some of the best applicants don't get into the Seminar. Don't be discouraged over this lil bump in the road. - CanCandMateus

...you've got an excellent chance at being accepted at the Academy. I didn't even apply for Summer Seminar and was selected this year. Summer Seminar doesn't make or break the deal... - fudge_rabbit22

If the Academy is truly what you want, keep working hard...I know of one very, very, VERY successful Air Force Academy GRADUATE that also did NOT get into summer seminar. She chuckles now when she refers to this and says, "Look who's laughing now." - flymom

Maybe this will be your success story to tell your ALO in response to obstacles you have faced and overcome...Maybe what will impact your ALO (and in turn the admissions board) is your continued positive attitude, work ethic, and persistence upon initial rejection. Maybe that's the obstacle you need to share during your interview.</p>
<p>Successful cadets are not those who accept defeat the first time they try something and fall flat on their face. Successful cadets pick themselves up and tackle the obstacle with even more force and enthusiasm and drive to succeed. - redhead89

<p>As you can see, Summer Seminar really isn't that important. You can definitly still get into the Academy, just take a moment to regather yourself, refocus, and continue to make yourself the best applicant you can be. Best of luck to you.</p>
