Relationship Advice Needed

Note: The person who needs this advice is my friend, and he doesn’t have a College Confidential account, so I’m posting it for him. Any response is appreciated since this is a huge deal to him.

“Hello everyone, I have a dilemma. A freshman and I are currently seeing each other, although it’s unofficial. Recently, I learned that she might be depressed from her past experiences and trauma. Additionally, she’s very attached to me. I like her, but I sometimes feel obligated to be with her because I don’t want her to be more and more depressed. Next year I’ll be leaving her and going to college so either way she’ll end up hurt. What should I do? Is this an unhealthy relationship?”

bump

  1. No need to bump after 20 minutes
  2. If he's not happy he shouldn't feel forced to stay in the relationship, depression or no depression. He's not responsible for her mental health.

@Bodangles is right. Your friend isn’t responsible for her mental health. If he doesn’t want to date her, it’s better for both if he doesn’t.

Can he talk to his parents about this? He needs someone who will be there for him when he needs it. He won’t get that kind of help on an anonymous forum.
