Ok basically i love music but im getting tired of finding a really good band only to have my cheerleader g/f and all her friends fall in love with them six months later (i.e. fall out boy), so does anyone know any relatively unpop. bands that are good? Im basically into emo and r&b but im willing to anything except gangster rap, hardcore screamo, death metal and country.

Heres are few that are somewhat unpop. (although i predict they'll be big in the next 3 months)
Panic! At the Disco
The Academy is...

same thing happened to me with death cab for cutie...i hate those people that "have to hear it first", but it really did irk me when my friend asked me if i knew of this new band called DCFC, and i was like huh? and she was like......well its actually death cab for cutie, but they're pretty unknown so I doubt that you have heard of them...i was like......argh!

^^^^ haha, that sounded like a total blonde conversation.

the shins is another band that is now pretty popular.

Speaking of death cab, I'm going to see them tonight in Providence. I'm really looking forward to seeing the opening act, Stars, I've heard some good things about them.

What a stupid reason for listening to music.

And IMO, Fall Out Boy sucks it hardcore.

I never really understood why people fell out of favor with music they stopped loving because suddenly, everyone else loves it too.

Music is for enjoyment (and other emotions), not for hoarding.

I dont stop liking music b/c everyone else likes it. I still love fall out boy. It just gets kind of annoying when wherever you go you hear the same band that you love, until you've heard it so many times that you dont love it anymore.

i used to know two of the brothers in the band 'cause they went to my high school, they're the nicest (and hottest) people ever(!!!), and sort of mini celebrities in new orleans, they sometimes play with Better than Ezra, dunno what they're doing after the hurricane... anyway, check them out, they're really musically talented but relatively unknown...

Then you're not listening to the band because of the quality of their music, but by the image they seem to give you. A good band is a good band regardless of who likes them. Are you one of those people who purposely seek out underground, indie bands to seek "street cred", as opposed to discovering good music? Because there's nothing lamer in my opinion.

Nightwish - quite popular in Europe, but virtually unknown in the US. They're brilliant.

IMHO, Europeans have more horrid tastes in music than North Americans. For god's sake, even David Hasselhoff was a huge pop star in Germany! And the things that go #1 on their charts... Oy. The only exception is England, because a lot of good rock and roll came, and comes, from there. For metal, you can't beat Scandinavia, but that's a love/hate genre.
