Dela - was that a physical letter? If so, what state do you live in? People in MA would get those letters before others.

lol Retter, I can’t help but take this as a silent rejection :/

amherst needs to get it’s crap together, though. April 1st is way late for a notification date this year–strangely late, considering the majority of other schools (such as ivies, other peer LACs) will have come out already by then. It’s really kinda weird…

@Updawg: I received an e-mail from the Diversity Dean at about 5PM today. I live in Puerto Rico (US territory). As I mentioned before, the email stated that “formal offers of admission will be mailed on March 31, 2011 (email notification will be sent on April 1, 2011).”

I recieved the same email from the “dean of diversity” and it did indeed state that the official letter of admission would be mailed out March 31 and email notifications sent April 1~
Don’t give up hope guys, you’ll all get into great schools~ > u<
Plus, admissions is like the lottery more or less-- if it’s any comfort, I had a 3.68 unweighted GPA. (wayyy surprised that I got into such a school! And still shocked.)

Sorry for being so stupid, but I can’t see where one can check their financial aid documents. Please could someone tell me which link in MyAmherst is MyFinancial Aid?
Thanks

Financial Aid | Offices & Departments | Amherst College;

Click the link for fdata.amherst…

“If an ED admit or likely letter recipient can try, we’ll have a better idea of whether it works at all…”

Accepted ED but could not enter site.

blarghh: yeah it is strange
At this point there’s nothing we can do but hope. It will all be for the best, I’m telling myself.

Sigh, I’m an international student, got no acceptance/likely email, does this mean bye bye Amherst? =(

hellperman, it all boils down to: you don’t know you’re in or out until they tell you. All we can do now is just wait. I know it’s hard but if it makes you happy, we’re thousands experiencing the same anxiety. ;)

damn. from the dean of diversity? I am Asian American, so I probably would hae gotten that if I got in. Oh well. bye Amherst!

^ Honestly, I’m not sure asian americans are considered diversity at top colleges… so don’t lose hope!:)

Asians are not considered part of diversity usually as they are well represented in many schools. Don’t lose hope starting line.

@dela & raiishu-

Congratulations to you both! did either of you attend the DIVOH at Amherst in the Fall?

My D but did not get an email yesterday. The wait continues…

Thanks!

well, being Asian doesn’t help in getting in(seeing as we are definitely not underrepresented), but I always get the calls/emails from other colleges from their diversity offices. I think if I had gotten in, I would have gotten the email, unless its only for diversity students who need financial aid–I didn’t apply for financial aid.

^ I have a friend (Asian female) who got in yesterday, presumably with the letter from the Diversity Dean. However, it is possible that they didn’t choose ALL diversity/minority candidates for early admission. You can’t know until you get the letter, so try to stay positive!

I am trying to hold out!! My only hope it is along the same vein as the open house early acceptances, in that they are trying to give FA students more time.

yep, it seems that they are funding asians for the open house.

thus, that’s why I was thinking :

Minority + needs financial aid = open house invitation = accepted

Minority (I’m Asian) + needs financial aid + no open house invitation = rejected/waitlisted

Minority + doesn’t need finaid = no open house invite= could still be accepted.

Of course, I could be wrong!

But I’m still preparing for a rejection. I thought about it a bit and it doesn’t bother me too much, though it is a bit disappointing. I have other colleges that I like just as much! (:

Need to cease thinking of Amherst, though :p

That would be me. Sigh. Can’t say I wasn’t expecting it, but it still stings just a little.

What if I’m a minority and I applied for financial aid, but I’m still middle to upper-middle class? Should I prepare for a rejection/waitlist? It’s not like I wouldn’t be able to pay for a trip to Amherst… I live very comfortably.
