religion classes

do non-affiliated colleges look at religion classes at all? does it put me at a disadvantage to have 4 required years of religion classes when, if i had the opportunity, i could take something more worthwhile instead?

This is exactly what I have been thinking (currently going to a Jesuit school). Colleges I think take out religion and recaluclate the GPA unless they themselves are religious like Villanova and Georgetown. Yes we are at a disadvantage academically b/c we are missing one class which we could have been using to take something more productive, but Colleges will understand...

my Ds go to a jesuit HS that requires 4 years of religion- and those kids get in everywhere....sure some schools don't "recognize" the classes, but it hasn't seemed to hurt our students, even with the A-g requirement for Calif schools

many schools keep in the religion class in the gpa

so don't stress over it

I go to a Catholic high school, and religion classes certainly didn't seem to hurt me in admissions.

I think you're OK.
