Reminder from Brown University

Midwesterner here... 5 pm local time.
I'll be in california that day though so it's like I'm getting it at 3 :D

East coast...my email says 5 PM. Maybe the batches are in the order that they received our applications..?

during the early decision round, at 5PM, decisions were received as acceptance first, deferred second, and rejected third.

Wepel-did they use the same language when they told you at what time you would be notified (such as "5pm local time")?

yeah that's true but we were all told we would be able to view our decisions at 5pm EST - there were no staggered times.

I really don't think they could make the time correspond to the decision because There are 21 days left till Brown posts their decisions so I'm sure they're not done making all their decisions. I doubt they've even read all the applications yet since they were probably completing all their files until the end of last week.

Wepeel, are you serious?

so does that mean that i am rejected because I was told 6:30 my local time?

I really doubt that those times mean anything special...
Imagine those admissions people sitting there calculating time difference for the various time zones.

What wepeel says is true, but the three decisions were received over a span of only minutes or seconds. At 5PM EST when we were all refreshing and refreshing to get our decisions, and then posting on CC when we found out. If you look on the ED results thread, you'll see that the first 5 or so people who learned about their decisions were accepted, and then it was the deferrees. We were all told decisions would be posted at 5PM, and they were-- within about 5 minutes.

This staggered time thing is NOT the same as that. Don't read into it. It doesn't mean anything like that.

Uhh i doubt the time means anything because i am a recruited athlete (soccer), I've gotten calls from the coaches there and then someone on the admissions staff ( last Friday) letting me know that I'd officially be notified of my acceptance at the end of the month. And my email said 6 pm

i dont think the staggered times would make sense b/c theres only 3 possible results (accepted, waitlisted, rejected) & theres at least 4 diff times--5pm, 5:30, 6, 6:30

I doubt there's anything to the differing times. I think they just randomly allocated the applicants so that it reduces server traffic at 5 pm (no server crashes or lagging or whatever)

Also, I'd like to say on mine it says 5 pm, so I'm not just trying to make myself feel better.

I also wouldn't that rumor being true...haha

Yeah mine says 6PM and I'm on the East coast. And I agree, I doubt that they've made their decisions yet.

No email message from them. Wonder if that's significant or just random. If it's significant it's kind of lowbrow of them. Other schools (Yale included) gave an email heads-up to everyone who applied SCEA regarding when to check the site for decisions.

How many others of you posting, if you don't mind my asking, have not yet received this email notification from Brown?

The different times on the email mean absolutely nothing other than to avoid a crash. Brown has been doing this for quite some time based on the posts from previous years. Best of luck to everyone.

No email in my house either....

hmm it was march 29th last year...we have to wait two more days why...

more applications?

no email here either

I received the Brown email on 3/6 at 7:04am est.

It read in part:

We suggest that you bookmark this site; your admission decision will be
available online
on Monday, March 31, 2008 no sooner than 5 p.m. (your local time).

My last name begins with 'H'.

Don't really think this means anything, except that perhaps they are trying to prevent a computer crash. Interesting speculations though...and totally a 'Made You Look' phenomenon, as in checking what times we were slotted to receive our decisions.

Good luck to All. Few more weeks. Have a diversion next week attending an IBE candidate program at Lehigh. Have to keep those options open, right?
