Repeating 9th Grade in 12th grade?

long story short, my school closed down and I don’t have any credits for 9th grade. I went into 9th grade in 2015-2016 and my school was approved to become an official school in 2017(it was new at the time) and since it closed down due to financial issues from the district, we all had to transfer to different schools.
a few days into this school year at my new school (i’m now a senior) my counselor called me in and revealed that i had nothing for 9th grade; the classes were in my transcript, but at the time the school hasn’t been approved and the courses weren’t also so basically i got nothing for 9th grade.
so now im fitting 9th grade classes (history, english, pe-- ill be doing a sport to complete my pe creds, and electives) into my 12th grade schedule which consists of human anatomy, english, american gov, and a math class.

for college, ive talked to my counselor and they said that they would have to contact the uc apps (?) about my 9th grade grades situation. im taking the opportunity to advance my gpa because i earned a 2.7 gpa during the 9th grade and 9th grade was my w (3.5 last sem) and the question is: when i apply, will colleges think im challenging myself by doing A LOT of work/classes for my last year of high school??

thanks in advance

It shouldn’t be an issue as far as getting accepted. It’s got nothing to do with you personally, or your competency. It might be a good idea to have some sort of documentation of what happened if it’s clear from the course titles that these are freshman classes. It would look funny if your transcript says English 1 and English 4 at the same time. Your transcript from your first “school” or the official letter about closing or newspaper announcement would be fine. If your GPA will get a boost from throwing out your original freshman GPA, think of it as a blessing in disguise. You get the re-do other kids wish they could have. Depending on how your schedule is set up, it doesn’t look like extra work at all on paper. All of my kids had seven classes every semester and that’s normal for around here.

You’ll be fine! The UC app has sections that allow you to explain any unique circumstances in your academic history. Although it will be lots of work, I think it’s good that you’re being given the opportunity to improve your grades. As you said, it does show that you are working hard, but it isn’t the same as you choosing to challenge yourself with a more rigorous course load – you’re doing this because you need the credits to graduate. Regardless, I think colleges will understand that this isn’t your fault. Good luck!

UC’s don’t count 9th grade but you need all a-g requirements.
Colleges won’t think you’re challenging yourself if you’re taking 9th grade classes in 12th grade.
Isn’t there a competency based exam you could take rather than 9th grade classes? Or can’t they grandfather you in - ie., You passed algebra 2 so you clearly Also passed algebra1?
