Repeating a B. Am I crazy?

I know it sounds crazy, but hear me through. I'm currently in Aeronautical Engineering at a top school with a respectable GPA, but slightly below what seems to be the requirement for most internships. I was not able to find an internship for this summer. Not attributing that to GPA, but having a slightly higher one would have opened up many more doors. There was a general education course that I took last semester and should it have been an easy A. There was no reason for me not to get an A in the class, and because of that, I slacked off and got an 88%--a B. I'm really mad about this because I KNOW I could have done better if I put more effort into it.

I have enough room in my schedule for next year to take this class again. I know that for grad school admissions, repeating a class any grade above a D (or C, even) looks plain awful. I have no intentions of applying to grad school though. Will my employers even look into my transcript all that much? I always thought GPA was just a number and experience matters most, so I can't picture them doing much research into how the GPA was obtained. But who knows. I'm not trying to be a grade grubber, I just want to get myself above that threshold that would open up more opportunities and turning that B into an A along with having a good semester will do that.

I wouldn’t repeat it. Just try harder in your other classes. You can still get a higher GPA if you do well then. I think there was a rule in my school about not being able to repeat classes with a grade of C or higher.

Yes, you are crazy for repeating a B grade.

Seriously a large waste of time and life. Take one less class next semester, and try to get all A’s… Whatever you decide, make sure it is not repeating a B…

All of the above, or take another class and learn something new (that an employer may find of use…or not). Your time is valuable.

Don’t do it! Some universities just won’t let you repeat a B (or even a C) grade. Just move on, it won’t make a bit of difference when you graduate.

I’ll offer up a slightly different answer;

Insane.

agree… a B is not bad at all.

I remember the famous quote that I heard in my first year: “a D = degree!”

The only thing crazier than retaking a course you got a B in, is asking a bunch of strangers on the Internet about whether you should retake a course you got a B in, followed closely by explaining how crazy retaking a course you got a B in is to an anonymous stranger online.

Yes, you are crazy for repeating a B grade.

Use the extra time to refine your job hunt strategies. Go to the career center, polish your resume, sign up for mock interviews, research companies that hire Aeronautical Engineer, learn how to leverage LinkedIn, etc.
