Reporting SAT's

Hey everybody, hope you've all been having a relaxing winter break.

I took my SAT's back when I really didn't care about school and got very mediocre scores as a result. This was back in '06, so it hasn't been 8 years yet. Do all applicants have the option of simply taking the GSAE in lieu of producing SAT scores, or must I bite the bullet and provide them with the original scores?

Thanks all.

My understanding is that you must report all scores within the last 8 years. However you also have the option of retaking the SAT, ACT or taking GSAE, regardless of anything else.

“Official scores from the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or the American College Testing Program (ACT) taken within the last eight years must be reported directly to Columbia by the testing service. The ETS code number for General Studies is 2095. Students who have no test scores or test scores older than eight years should arrange to take the General Studies Admissions Examination by calling the Admissions Office at 212.854.2772. Please list your test scores where appropriate:”

Ah thanks for the speedy reply. Do you think taking the GSAE on top of providing those scores would be a good idea?

Thanks again, man.

Actually, to be more specific, do you think it would be a worthwhile endeavor?

I would almost definitely say not worthwhile. My SATs were mediocre so unless you COMPLETELY bombed them, like <1500, you’re probably in fine shape. What will ultimately hurt you more is if you have mediocre SATs and mediocre or no recent college performance. It’s actually a good thing if the shoe doesn’t fit the foot, so to say, and you have a 3.7+ at a CC but have poor standardized tests. This shows realized “potential” or “improvement” through self-application.
