Hey, I've recently have been accepted to uw-madison. Unfortunately they sent me a letter saying that I didn't follow up on their letters and complete a summer program. Sadly, I did not go to this program because it was on the week of my sisters wedding so I was busy with that. I've been having a busy summer and I guess it is my fault for failing to follow up on my letters. I thought it was odd that i would be getting all these letters that my friends and siblings never got. But is there any way for me to appeal this situation? I've been accepted, but just because I didn't attend the summer program means that I got denied? Would there even be any way to appeal this? I find this situation very frustrating. I've worked so hard and then I got rejected because I couldn't attend a summer program that they say they require? Can you guys please help me out with some advice?

You were not opening your letters? I’d think the university would find it very frustrating to send you communications that are ignored. Yes, some acceptances are “conditional” which means you have to fulfilll the conditions in order to be accepted. Too bad you didn’t talk to them before the fact. All you can do is contact them and explain the circumstances of your sister’s wedding and ask.

Contacting them directly is the best thing you can do right now. Explain to them your situation and ask if there is anything you can do to make it up.

Some colleges would offer conditional acceptance to marginally qualified students and put them in a Summer bridge program. If you do not attend the bridge program, the will have to revoke the admission. You should check with the school to see if there is any alternative for the Summer program that you have missed.
