Rescinded from UCI?

I'm an admitted Lit Journalism major with some problems...

So when I applied, I recorded all of the classes I took, am taking, and planning to take. This added up to be around 91 units by the end of this quarter, Spring 2012. However, there is a math class that a counselor said WOULD transfer, but a separate counselor recently said it would not. Now I'm either at 91 units or 87, three units shy of the transfer requirement.

Basically: I took a math class. That class won't transfer. Now I won't have enough units. It's not part of my major or IGETC.

Every time I call the Admissions and Relations with Other Schools office, I get a different answer. The first time I called, the person helping told me that I had nothing to worry about and that I would receive credit for the course. The second time I called (after I talked to a counselor who told me to call and confirm), I got a completely different answer.

Through the message center, my counselor said:

"Technically I can't guarantee at this time that
everything will be okay since we need your
official documents to verify that all information
has been correctly reported, but regarding that
course, I have spoken with other counselors and we
may be willing to make an exception in your case
since that particular precalc course was not
caught on the front end. Again, I would still
suggest that you at least fulfill your 60 semester
unit requirement by enrolling in a course in the
summer."

(This class is just for units)
Is this leaning towards the "You're good to go" side? or the "You still may be screwed" side? I really want to deposit and go to UCI, but I'm hesitant to deposit money just to get kicked out. UCSB (the other school I'm considering) told me that they had the class and that I was at 92 units and perfectly OK and good to go. Maybe I'm overthinking it...

My transfer conditions don't say anything significant:
Complete 90 quarter (60 semester) units of UC transferable coursework prior to transfer.

Maintain a minimum overall transfer grade point average of 2.70.

Complete the following course(s) with the grade specified, by the academic term specified below:
No additional coursework has been specified at this time.

Complete the following conditions:
No additional items have been specified at this time.

So what's the likelihood of getting rescinded given what my counselor said? They dodge calls and emails (well, it seems like it) and never get back to me. I've talked to three counselors at my school, several professors, and even people at the Humanities department at UCI.

Should I even bother SIRing? I'm definitely going to take the summer course and do whatever it takes, but nothing is finalized until July 15. My quarter ends the 28th and I'm not even sure my stuff will make it there on time.

Did you call UCI and ask them directly? They can give you the best answer. I believe if you’re rescinded, they will refund your SIR deposit, but call and ask them to find out. You should be able to check online if a course is UC transferable. Do that ASAP to find out.

I called multiple times. I’m not allowed to directly talk to the counselor; I can only talk through the Message Center. The course does not transfer, but I just need a definite answer on whether or not I would be rescinded, even though the counselor told me SHE recommends me.

What exactly do you mean by “the course doesn’t transfer”. Does that mean UCI won’t give you subject credit for it or your CCC has deemed to not be UC transferable. You can call admissions directly, you may not be able to speak with a “counselor” or whatever, but they can give you answers.
I don’t really understand your situation, has your schedule changed or something so that you are taking less units or different classes than what was originally shown on your app or something? Because if UCI determined that you wouldn’t have 60 semester units by the end of Spring, and that was a dealbreaker for them, then they wouldn’t have accepted you.

When I applied I was under the impression that it transferred. Then I was admitted. Now my cc counselor is saying it won’t transfer to the UC. So the CCC deemed it not UC transferrable. It’s up to the UC at this point, UCSB OK’d me, but not UCI…

I understand. But if UCI saw that you would be taking it, and there were no changes at all to your academic plans, then I don’t see why they would have a problem, unless they contacted you about on their own. It’s such an odd situation becuase it sounds like they didn’t even notice it, and you contacted them, had you not said anything, they may never have even noticed.

It sounds like she says you will be ok as long as you take the summer course:

“but regarding that
course, I have spoken with other counselors and we
may be willing to make an exception in your case
since that particular precalc course was not
caught on the front end. Again, I would still
suggest that you at least fulfill your 60 semester
unit requirement by enrolling in a course in the
summer”

What you need to ask them tomorrow is this:
Will I be rescinded because of this course?
If you’re not sure for some reason, when will I find out at the latest, as June 1st is fast approaching?
Do I have to take a summer course in order to maintain my admission or is it only recommended?

They have to make a decision on your app sooner or later, they can’t just pull it back at anytime unless you falsified information (you did not). If they just keep telling absolutely nothing for some odd reason despite your specific questions, you may want to seriously consider SIRing to UCSB.
