Wow thanks lionheart, that actually makes my scores seem a lot more realistic. But really, who knows? We’ll just wait and see.

I have to second Pioneer’s statement regarding practices tests V the actual SAT. I used the official College Board book and was scoring the highest in writing (assuming a 9 essay), followed by math and then critical reading. my CR score turned out 80 points higher than and practice test, my math 40 points higher and my writing 50 points lower, making it my lowest score.
@Lionheart- I also received a 670 on writing with an 8 essay. I was thoroughly shocked because I felt as though I had at least a 10 essay. I have heard that only writing say, 1 and 2/3 pages, rather than the full 2 pages makes it hard to score a 10. My handwriting is small and if it were bigger (normal size) it would have been the full two pages. I know this seems a little outlandish, but could the size of my handwriting have affected my essay score at all?

I understand why you guys would say what you’re saying about differences in practice tests and the actual SAT causing some of the lower scores that people on this thread are reporting, but I think in my case, there might be something fishy going on. (Or, at least I’m hoping there is).

On my March SAT, I got a 12 on my essay and an 80 as my Writing MC Score (–> 800). But on my June SAT, I got a 12 on my essay and a 74 as my Writing MC Score (–> 780). I’m not complaining about a 780 (I wish my Math and CR scores were that high), but I’m someone who tends to be very, very good at SAT writing sections (I don’t think I’ve ever missed more than 1 question in a practice test) - so it’s very hard for me to believe that I actually got 6 Writing MC questions wrong.

@CornellHopeful I’ve heard that the length of your essay (or the perceived length of your essay, based on the size of your handwriting) is directly related to your score. See this article: <a href=“SAT Essay Test Rewards Length and Ignores Errors - The New York Times”>SAT Essay Test Rewards Length and Ignores Errors - The New York Times; I know that I tend to write a lot, and for both my SAT essays that I’ve done so far, I’ve written a full 2 pages (filling up every line). I earned 12s for both.

Yes, it’s nice that you can already see your writing MC score. For me, I got a 70/80, so that’s either 10 wrong or 8 wrong (which one?). But I don’t see myself getting even 8 wrong as I checked the consolidated answers thread. Also guys, has there ever been a thread like this after SAT results came out on CC, with so many people having this experience with the test??

^^The writing MC score is scaled. Think about it, there weren’t actually 80 multiple choice writing questions on the whole test. I missed 4 writing MC questions on the May SAT and had a MC score of 69. Your 74 sounds about right. It means you missed about 2.

^I’m sure there have been plenty of people who didn’t score as high as they thought they would. Doesn’t mean College Board messed up.

Ok, that makes a lot more since then. I got a 70 scaled, so that’s probably 3-4 wrong? Guess it’s all up to my ACT score now…

@PioneerJones Are you sure that the writing MC is scaled? Because that sounds a little weird to me.

I still think I’m going to get score verification - but I’ll wait until after the more detailed score report comes out next week.

^Yes, I am sure. Here’s a picture of my score report for verification. I got 4 questions wrong, and my MC score was 68/80.

Um… I think some of you might need to accept the fact that your scores came out lower than expected because, maybe, you didn’t do that good on the test?

practice tests are by no means an accurate measure of what your real SAT scores will be. My brother, for instance, always had his practice test scores (blue book) between 2100 and 2200, but got 2320 on the real thing (even with 9 on the essay)

Even if you checked your answers with the CC consolidated answers list, you don’t know how the curve would be. I, for one, got only 3 questions wrong in CR on my Jan 2010 test, but still ended up with a 750. I think the curve was even harsher in May, so it is very possible to get even lower scores with the same raw score.

As for the essay, it is not as easy as you think it is to predict what your score will be. When I was preparing for my SATs, I wrote multiple essays and talked about them with several of my teachers, all of whom have taught SAT courses before. They all gave me 11~12.

I took the SAT twice and guess what? i got 8/12 essay on both of my writing sections. It wasn’t because my handwriting was bad. I heard that the length of the essay correlates with the score, but don’t base your prediction solely on that theory. I actually filled the entire two pages for both my essays.

Wait till the detailed score reports come out. Unless there is a notable difference between your prediction and the actual scores,(for instance, you were expecting a sure 800 based on practice tests but ended up with a 600 on the real one), the chances are they graded your test right.

Things don’t always turn out the way you expect them to.

@PioneerJones Thanks for clearing that up. Collegeboard scoring can be so counterintuitive sometimes…

I’m in the same boat as a lot of you. Problem is, I’m done with the SAT, I’ve taken it too many times, so retaking isn’t really an option.

I got a 1390/2110 which I’m relatively content with. The 1390 part is really bugging me a lot. I thought I did a lot better on CR, but I got a 690…argggh those 10 points would have really helped, because I’m applying to schools where 1400 will get you free tuition, which would really help. My 1390 will still get me a decent scholarship, but I’ll still have to pay $6-7K a year for tuition.

Damn…so close. Happy with my three part score, but a lot of schools only look at M+CR.

Never did I ever think writing would be my highest score lol

Oh and how much is Score Verification? It can’t be more than $20, can it?

Oh and as they are going over your test, what happens if they find out they made a mistake in your favor? Will they take points away?

Score verification is $50

good luck to all you guys, including me, who will try to convince parents to dish out 50 bucks for a score verification.

jesus christ…how the F the college board is a non profit organization is beyond me

■■■■■ they’re not. They keep like 50 million dollars and give it to their board of directors haha.

Like the Verification of the essay, they will not even re-read, but simply make sure that each individual reader’s score was correctly recorded - that’s the easist $50 on earth!!!

^Exactly. The College Board is about to make $50 from every smug kid in the country who thinks they should’ve gotten a higher score.

Ok, honestly I’m not exactly sure what score verification is. I’m guessing they will just go over my MC answers and math fill ins to see if the computer grader made a mistake…correct? Don’t really care about the essay, I got an 11 on it.

The $50 isn’t really a problem, I work a couple jobs, it is just telling my parents, ummm I need you to run you credit card through here…

Have you ever heard of anyone getting their score raised a little after paying for the verification?

By researching the posts on CC as well as other places, I found some confirmed cases with Biology subject test and there was also a mass mistake from CB affecting 4000 students a few years back.

However, I have seen anyone come afront (on CC) to tell that his/her score increased after Verification.

^^^

Yeah, that’s kind what I’m afraid of. Kind just $50 down the toilet.

Too bad a lot/most of the schools I really like are M+CR only. My 2110 looks a little better than a 1390.

oh well, not the end of the world, I’ll live. I’ll just have to perfect the rest of app/essays.
